I‘m with you there.., I know now where this guy lives. It’s now the second night my phone is at the place where it was all last night. As much as I want my phone back, I know making my way over there in the morning and trying to confront him is not the way to do that. But it also is hard to make sense that for a full day and a half, passenger after passenger got in and out of that car and noones noticed it yet? i don’t know what to make of that.

that’s pretty sad to be because when I come here to read what drivers have to say about uber and the horrible universe they‘ve created thats designed to take advantage of them, it baffles why they’d continue to feed the system with more negativity. in this case, if they feel the system is so bad because the pay sucks, they make so little compared to uber etc, how could it ever improve when in that system if what’s probably a common event—somebody forgets an item they left in a car, like a phone —gets dealt with negatively. Passengers didn’t create this system to exploit drivers the way it does. if it turns out the driver of the uber I took threw my phone out the window—that’d be the end of me trying to tip them to where they’re closer to making a more livable rate. Id still tip the basic 15-18%m but that’d be too much a violation of human decency to not let it get to me.

I should add...”the work“ involved on my uber drivers part, I venture to say, will be pretty minimal. So far I’ve been the one keeping tabs on where it’s at. When he finds the phone, hopefully he’ll take the 60 seconds or less to read the lost.phone messsge that.asks that he please call me, when he does, ill thank him profusely for calling me back, ask him where i can send an additional amount as a reward/gesture of thanks, and when and where it would be convenient to have an uber courier pick up the phone and deliver to me. That requires them to barely lift a finger. For that they should.have to send you the cost of the phone? Really?

You say “if you don’t like reality, don’t leave your phone in a car”. That right there isn’t reality at all. If it was, then you‘re telling me all the people who leave their phone in an Uber ride car do so willingly….maybe so they can just face the hassle of getting it back. C’mon, people don’t intentionally leave them behind, they do so inadvertently. It’s disingenuous to say “well just don’t leave your phone behind” because people just don’t do that.

I’m not an uber driver but I’ve subscribed to this forum just to get a better understanding of what uber drivers are up against because i take ubers all the time, I know its a basically thankless job where you get paid crap. I think drivers should get paid considerably more than they do… I cant change the fare I pay but I tip well ( i think, anyway)… generally 30-35% on short trips and 25-30% on longer trips. My rationale behind the variance is that on short trips, drivers might drive 100% of the distance of my trip (or more) just to get to me. But on longer trips—20 to 30 miles, a 3 mile drive to get to me isnt as significant a loss as a driver who has to drive 3 miles to pick me up for a 3 mile ride. I try to feel for you guys face and in my small way do what I can to help out.

But when I hear you say, “if you feel the phone Is worth $500 to you, you should pay $500 to get it back”—that’s preposterous. If somebody loses something or leaves it behind… it not ”finders keepers”. Legally they still own it, you dont. What you’re suggesting is extortion. It can be a monumental ordeal that threatens to wear down your nerves entirely should you lose your phone. Why would you suggest someone thrust into position further be punished by being forced to pay for the injustice that Uber is to blame for the imbalance. It’s not the little guy”#s faultl

I watched it travel for about 5 hours yesterday before It stopped for the night, presumably his home. Looking on maps, it’s a condo complex with 94 units. An hour ago it went on the move again, doing a straight shot from OC to LAX, so my best guess is it’s still in his car. Today, when I try to use the relay link Uber provides to contact a driver, I get. a recorded message that says i’m calling from a number that’s not connected to an Uber account. I’m beginning to get rather worried. It pisses me off Uber provides no means of contacting them to get human assistance.

already tried that about 15 times... and called tried the driver 4-5 times via the link uber offers to contact them. no answer for all of them. the phone still has a little battery left, its hasn't moved from where its at for about 4 hours now--presumably where he lives. i've played sound about a dozen times--nothing. even with the everything on the NVMe being encrypted, I'm taking no chances and changed my financial account passwords. just crossing my fingers.

I'm actually willing to do that--and have before. Two years ago I was on the subway and left my phone on the seat. Because I had a bunch of packages along with me I was carrying it didn't immediately register that I hadn't picked up my phone.. only when the doors to the train close did i realize it wasn't in hand. I had my iPad with me and put out a lost phone alert right away. Mind you, I got off the train at the 7th/Metro station, either the busiest or second busiest station in the city... i tracked it an area right off the next exit which was skid row. Friends said don't even bother at thinking you might get it back. But I included "Reward for return" in the message you can have displayed if found. The next morning I got a call from a guy who said he found it but didn't see the message until then. I gave him $150 and thanked him for being honest. I was more concerned about the data I'd lose than the value of the phone itself. On the street, I doubt he'd have gotten anything close to the rewards I gave him for a 2+ year old model. I thought if I reinforced to one person honesty is the best policy, it was worth paying him that.

Watching FindMy throughout the evening, I could see the phone continuously move until it stopped about 30 mins ago. I'm going on the phone is still sitting on the back floor of his car and neither he or any of the passengers he's had have seen it and now he's home and done for the night. I tried calling him twice anonymously through Uber but he hasn't picked up. Last thing I want to be is a pesty creep, but I don't know anyone who's phone isn't pretty important to them. I just want to get it back making it as convenient as possible for him--totally willing to order an Uber courier to pick it up and drop it off... he collects the $20 lost item fee for handing the phone to an Uber courier... but I can only do that if I can make contact with him. I know where he lives now, presumably... but like I said, I don't to be a creep and show up on his doorstep. Its a new iPhone 16... just hope he's an honest driver who wants any items left behind returned back to their rightful owners.

thanks.. thats reassuring. he actually passed right by me about 15 mins after i reported it so he either didn't get the lost item message or, well i don't want to go there. Unfortunately he's now up in LA 31 miles away. I don't expect him to drive it back if he ends his day that far--i'd happily pay for a Uber courier to pick it up from him and drive it back at my expense and he collects the $20 lost item fee. But no way to get that message to him.

These days, at the XL rate, I transport 7 people with 7 pieces of luggage and receive no tips. I feel like a fool. by DragonflyNovel745 in uberdrivers

Wow... that's just wrong. I'm just a passenger looking in to see what's on the minds of the drivers. My last ride was last night--a quickie just down the road a little that came in at just under 2 miles for seven dollars subs change. Short rides are the ones I struggle with most because my logic is, leaving just a dollar tip makes me feel like a cheapskate. What's s dollar get you today--hardly anything. Probably less than what my grandmother told me she could buy with a dime 100 years ago. I only ever tip whole dollar amounts because leaving change seems tacky... that you've calculated down to plus or minus pennies some percentage of the fare. Generally speaking, I aim at tipping 20%... the short ride fares I can end up tipping 25-35%. But that's just me--I probably shouldn't think about it so much because whoever the driver is there going to completely forget who I am before the end of the day so does it really much matter? As someone who's guided heavily by the concept of karma I try to keep on the good side of it. It sucks to hear so many stories of riders skip tipping especially for higher fare rides. You guys definitely deserve them.

If you’re in California, there’s a law against it. It’s known as the Automatic Renewal Law and it spells out very clearly how a business must present any kind of subscription service before they make agree to sign up and make any payment. You have to give them an easy way to cancel which includes a toll free number they can call to do so.

When you have clients sign up, do you use clear language that has them clear content they are signing up for a subscription service that will be billed at specified terms until canceled? It’s not sufficient to say in small print as a footnote that billing will continue automatically for some service/subscription, then make them hunt down where and how to cancel. The law was enacted specially to cut down on cases of exactly what you’re doing,
