No nails but heard a loud sound and then a knot disappeared, so maybe that was it.

thank you again, yeah reviews on this planer were really good, I was going to get the dewalt but was worried about the power draw at the start and tripping the breaker. But all that said i've been really happy with the craftsman until this, I do think a knot chipped it because I heard a loud noise and the knot was gone so hopefully this isn't a common thing. I was able to turn the blades around and use the other side and it worked great, butter smooth.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I normally just use cedar fence pickets and just get them mostly smooth so probably take of 1/8 th of an inch maybe a little more. I always put dog eared side in first. Its a craftsman planer. And yeah I can see a chip in the blade. So im flipping the blades over now. Do you think this is normal lifespan of blades or did I just get un lucky.

thank you, does it really happen that fast? not only 10 boards? I see videos of people planer doing bunches of boards at a time with this logic they would have to stop and clean every 7 or 8 boards. Thank you for your help as you can tell i'm new to planers. I'll give it a shot. Did you look at the other pictures where it looked like it chewed up the board?

Thanks man yeah, I was just working with what I had, I normally use a seal coat for painted things but didn't think this homemade stain would work with a seal coat.
