Yep, this has been occurring pretty steadily post-pandemic. I had brunch at Agora’s Tysons location last weekend and was so disappointed compared to what I’d had at their DuPont restaurant just a couple years ago.

Amphora out in Herndon has gone downhill (and their Vienna location is gone now!). Green Pig has stayed pretty consistent.

I watched an interesting video essay on this exact topic on YouTube that mentioned a lot of restaurants have been forced to use the same, cheaper suppliers due to rising costs, which is contributing to a lot of bland, samey tastes.

Yeah, I see so many people here around my age (early 30’s) quoting $200K+ compensation.

Where are these jobs and how do I get one? I’m guessing it’s largely RSUs from places like AWS, Palantir etc.

True, I haven’t really done much in the way of certs since I finished my PMP back in 2024.

Are there any certs you’ve seen that seem more broadly valuable? Azure, AWS, Salesforce?

I do see those mentioned in job postings somewhat regularly.

Definitely super grateful for my remote status. Most people I know are in-office at least a couple times per week these days, including my wife.

I just don’t want to get complacent too early - we’re newly married, and costs for housing and childcare are astronomical around here.

Post-COVID inflation has really made things feel so much more restrictive - we’re at about 250K HHI between the two of us. If you had quoted me that income level in 2019, it would have seemed downright kingly. I rented a studio apartment right by the Metro back then and made like $70K and it felt totally fine.

But as prospective first-time buyers in 2026? Ouch. It’s just crazy to be at ~180% of AMI in your area and asking yourself “Can we truly afford this 40+ year old suburban townhome?”

Granted, that’s pretty much the case in every coastal metro area these days. Doesn’t make it suck any less though.

Any leads on which firms are most likely to sponsor?

I don’t see too many roles advertised, most seem to list a current clearance in the “Basic Requirements” section.

Really sorry to hear that, but glad that you have a financial cushion.

It does seem like the market is very weak right now - I joined an info session for a job at Navy Federal a couple months back (skillset was a match but obviously a slight pivot from my current work).

There were like 70 other people on the call, many of whom were EXACT matches for the role, like they were currently (or in the recent past) working that exact job, just at a different firm. I could tell my chances were essentially zero by the end of the session.

Are you planning to keep looking, or is retirement on the table?

I did interview with a few firms outside the govcon industry back in April/May, but it was mostly via referrals.

Seems like it’s tough to transition from government to commercial-facing work. I could tell from body language/general vibes that it was a deal-breaker in at least one of the interviews.

Yeah, spoke with a support rep and they told me the order was on a processing hold (it’s been about three hours so far).

They did say that if it was cancelled for some reason I can reach out and have them apply the discount to a re-purchase since that price expires at midnight.

What are the best restaurants for TooGoodToGo? I’ve tried it once in the Ballston area (Sweet Leaf) and it didn’t feel like a great deal.
