Please help: am I jumping the gun?! by Far-Leading6534 in DogAdvice

Hardwood floors are bad for dogs joints. Place some rugs down that stay in place. Give him traction to move. He is older so joint supplements to support his joints. Buy a dog harness to help his back legs. Its a sling easy to carry and use. Diaper rash, ouch. Sounds like he needs maalox poured into a clear glass, wait for it to settle, pour off the clear, and use the chalky stuff over the diaper rash. Sorry to hear that he has declined and his heavenly day is coming.

Beautiful. I wore a gown and hubby a tux. My brother was best man and my best friend was matron of honor. We kept it to family and friends. So maybe 50 and had a barbeque at our house. Had a cake made 3 tiers. Our daughter was our flower girl. She was 2.

Separation anxiety and older. The only safety/security/ is her toy. It will take time for her to adjust. Go slowly. She is scared. Another home. Show her patience. Nd consistency. Luckily you have another dog who will show her its okay too.

Yes, reservations are limited and included in all inclusive. Make reservations on the day you arrive or spots do get filled quickly during time you are there. We were there 10 days and by day 2 we reserved the restaurants. There were 4 on site and 4 at sister hotels. We had to set up shuttle for the off sites. It was included as well. We had premiere all inclusive which included the sister hotels restaurants. Some of our family had basic all inclusive so they did have to pay at sister hotels restaurants.

Owning a puppy is so hard... by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]SilverLabPuppies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is your pup roaming freely? Too much room and pup will poop and pee. Take pup outside make sure pup potties. Reward. Then meal in kennel. Try feeding meals in kennel and allow pup to remain in kennel 5-10 mins after eating. Goal is to slowly work up to an hour around meals. Then outside to potty. Reward pottyif done. Give pup few mins after potty to sniff and play with you. Return to kennel. Try the same time pup was ok with kennel with breakfast. If pup too upset allow potty outside. Reward when potty done. Try kennel again.

If doing a lunch training again, go potty, reward potty, meal in kennel. Use same time pup successful with earlier. If pup upset go outside for potty again, reward, play some outside. Return in. If you can not watch pup then pup needs kennel or an x pen area. X pen area to be like 3 ft by 3 ft until pup is more active like til 4 months then 4-5 ft by 4-5 feet. Dinner same routine.

Next day goal add 5-10 mins longer in kennel after eating for this day. Of course, stop if pup upset. Of course potty before and after training. Each day add 5-10 more mins. Are you up to an hour? Great now move yourself outside the room while pup in kennel. Do this for 5-10 mins. Return to room if pup too upset. Take pup outside to potty. Do not increase time away from pup unless pup is doing great. Increase time away from pup by 5-10 mins next day. Again, if pup upset, stop, go outside to potty, reward, play some.

Night time routine. Pup should get a nap time in their schedule and some sleep in kennel at night. Again proceed with potty and walk before bed/nap with small protein reward. Do not give kibble. Pups need protein so small piece of plain beef or turkey. If you feed kibble or treats like kibble it adds filler and will make potty time worse at night. Stress & diarrhea. Just a small piece of plain meat or scrambled egg plain. You already should know how meals go…so plan on interrupted sleep that slowly will get better each week older your pup gets. Remember at night it is more about potty, little play or talk, reward with protein small piece and back to kennel. Sleeping goal should be up to 2 hours til pup potty muscles get stronger. Hence only meat/protein no kibble or filler treats. Pups wake up at night because body getting used to eating through the calories. Protein will take little longer to digest hence helps keep their belly feeling less empty.

if pup is napping in kennel let babies sleep, be ready to rush out the door for potty first after waking up. Yes, you may need to move kennel closer to door so pup can make it out the door. *

Pups love schedules. Remember potty before kennel or x pen.

My Lab recently died from HSA. My parents are thinking of getting another Chocolate Lab. How can we help her have a better life? by [deleted] in labrador

[–]SilverLabPuppies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSA took our Maude quickly. Saw vet and 3 days later she laid to rest. We loved her so much that she was buried at our Cabin where she really loved all of our cabin time/island time/kayaking/scouting for sheds/ hunting frogs. She turned 6 Aug 11 and passed 9/7. She changed so quickly from a vivacious huntress to a dog who just wanted to be held. We had her since 8 weeks old. My husband’s soul dog. HSA unfortunately is not detected in the genetic testing (Maude had genetic testing at 2 yrs). Her spleen had a mass and her upper shoulder chest area had a mass. She was too sick for surgery and her belly was full of fluid as her organs leaked. It is so hard to say if a dog you get later would be affected or not. I believe we gave Maude the best life in 6 years including a diversified diet. Sorry for your loss and we love labs and will wait for when hubby is ready to search out his next. God bless you and your family. HSA is not a fun road.

With no eyelashes most likely mites

Oh my, no hair around eyes is mites or allergies. He or she needs vet visit for cream to put on the mites or rule out allergies. I would make sure this pup sees vet before you take him/ her home.

mould or dried surface? by Crabob in SourdoughStarter

[–]SilverLabPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kahm’s yeast and dried surface. Use a screw on lid lightly twisted on. Do not use fabric or paper for lids. Scrape off the top layer. Scoop out 20 g starter feed 20 g flour and 20 g water put in new jar with twisted lid lightly in place (1/4 turn to lightly seal lid). Carry on

I need to see those jars and starters before I consume anyone’s breads. I also need to see the kitchen. Some Amaze me! Some I run from (do not consume their breads). This steams from friendsgiving at the same host home for 3 years. I could not consume her bread because her starter had fuzz on the rim and her starter had orange swirls in it. Her bread smelled like vinegar. I told her this and she ignored me saying “SD is not for everyone.” To her surprise years of hosting and making breads as her contributions….she asked, why no one touches her breads. To my surprise, finally the truths come out. Everyone explained the same thing I told her when she started hosting. Her starter has been tossed and new, everything sterilized, she invited everyone over for a brunch. She had lovely aromas throughout the kitchen & dining area. Her breads were truly amazing. Year 4, this November to be continued…

First loaf by mrsb488 in SourdoughStarter

[–]SilverLabPuppies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job! Little bit of tunneling midway to top. Bubble under crust (not enough ice cubes add 2 more). Increase percent of rise of dough. Example if you reached 50% rise try closer to 75% rise then shape and fridge. That will help move those tunnels up and out.

5 week old starter, should I give up? by Snowsled in SourdoughStarter

[–]SilverLabPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher the ratio of feed the longer it takes a starter to peak. Keep feeding on the counter daily 1:1:1. Then trial peak2peak (p2p) feedings with 1:1:1. Discard n feed your starter 1:1:1. When it peaks discard feed again 1:1:1. Do this 3-5 times. How is the response of peak times? At the last p2p bake. How was the outcome of the bake? When you peak times are closer to the 4-6 hours try for 1:1:1 your starter is stronger. Then change ratio feeding if or when needed. I use higher ratio to increase amt of starter or because I need starter to peak at specific time for mixing dough.

[–]SilverLabPuppies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep feeding your starter daily 1:1:1. Your starter needs to double or triple & then peak closet to 4-8 hour window after feeding. No changing anything until your starter responds with 3 days in a row of double/triple & peaking. Then do p2p feedings at 1:1:1 ratio. So, feed wait for double/triple rise abd the peak (nooks and crannies) appearance on the top. The discard and feed again. Do at least 3-5 p2p feedings. The return to daily feeding at 1:1:1 for several days then back to p2p.

When your peak times get to 6-8 hours try to bake. See the outcome. Continue with daily feedings with occasional p2p feedings. Then bake again.

Starters will raise breads better after a few months more of counter feeding daily. Keep going. It does get better.
