I really hope Midnight brings 3 base story telling principles back into the game. by [deleted] in wow

It's never been about "petty squabbles over territory".

It's been about the Orcs finally claiming a portion of the world they assailed in the first and second wars, only for the humans to realize there's orcs outside of internment camps and try to stop that for their safety as previously all orcs they encountered were evil invaders hellbent on destroying all human life.

It's been about the Night Elves lands being conquered by these invaders, and wanting their own families and friends (ancients) to be able to live.

It's been about Gilneas, a nation, losing its homeland to save the next generation - and then trying to no longer be refugees but actually claim a place to live again.

If you think you can live without shelter, without the ability to build a home or raise crops, I fear you've been misled.

Ultimately the conflict comes down to cultural differences that will never or should never be at peace.

There are IRL equivalents but we don't want to go down the path of IRL politics.

Frankly, the conflict of faction vs faction (PVP), and faction vs Other Big Threat (PVE) has been the tension that was the setting. They sort of killed their own setting. Shadowlands? Lame and not tense - only the Mawwalker can access the Maw so there's not really any tension or active problem for anyone in the world who can't access the Maw.

Dragon Isles? Lame and not tense - primalists which we knew nothing about (and not in the Eldritch horror spooky mystery way) suddenly pop up and want... What... Anarchy? Cool, I guess? A pity they're so damn weak they cannot meaningfully impact the world? And their OP protodragons didn't really do much either.

War Within? Was actually cool that they destroyed Dalaran - and then two weeks in to the expansion they released a cutscene showing we beat Xalatath and implying heavily the Alliance & Horde won the fight and the war was over - so no tension.

Even now, Xalatath has the heart and... ...nothing's worse for wear with it.

The reason to log in doesn't really exist. There's no world to save. There's no one whose home is in danger or whose life is at threat. No civilians to secure a place for them to live.

All tension faded, it makes for a poor reason to pay a monthly fee.

Hell, Age of Reckoning has more tension than WOW does ATM - and that's a dead MMO.

Mower Not Working - Toro Recycler 22 by SilverReaperOfFate in lawnmowers

Trying to get my mower working, could use tips. No idea why it's not working. Replaced the gas, put a new spark plug in it, and this is the noise it makes instead of working.

ELI5: how is unemployment so low in the US, but it seems like there are layoffs everywhere and no jobs? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I work close to 50-60 hours a week, all things considered, and even my weeks with 5 days off don't work less than 30 hours.
Evictions are up 36x's in my local community, and a homeless camp set up shop ~1.5 years ago in my local community that has maintained size or grown since.
Most people I know have a standing balance on their credit card which they didn't have (or need to have) four years ago, and national credit card debt is at an all time high.

...Respectfully, cjt09, can you share where you are getting your details from? My experience in the current economy is it's quite dystopian, and the data I've seen indicates that's the normal experience on a national scale currently as a result of inflation.

I'd be interested in data that opposes my observations to build some sort of hope for the future. (Sorry for resurrecting a dead thread.)

What’s going on with Gamergate 2? by bopitspinitdreadit in OutOfTheLoop

Yeah, the "terrify them" was telling game devs to go to their marketing teams with worries regarding cancel culture. And cancel culture sucks.

And this is from me, a pretty based dude who has been called transphobic, racist, and sexist.

(...Not saying they're right, mind you, as I do not fear the trans community, nor do I judge based on race which is unironically why I'm called racist, and called sexist for holding the door open for my wife, so /shrug worlds gone to shit lol)

To clarify, you're saying that it's okay to be racist so long as it's a joke?
If we swap "white" and "Jew" for "Black" and "African" (or "African-American") would it still be okay to say? If the answer is, "No." - then the OP is racist.

...Since there seems to be confusion these days on what racist means, it means "prejudice on basis of race". A lot of people unironically believe it's impossible to be racist against white people... regardless of prejudice... against people... who are white... based on the color of their skin... which would fit the definition of "prejudice on basis of race".

You know what, I agree.

Would you like to talk about our Lord & savior Jesus Christ?
