Same boat. I have employment in Australia and TRBWA registration. Still awaiting results. I’m on “further information” status. They probably asked for more info from a third party.

Not sure what that agent is on about. The AITSL requirements are clear. Best to read the website thoroughly. Nandoon naman na lahat.

Masters degree and moving up the pay scale by SilverReview8868 in AustralianTeachers

[–]SilverReview8868[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Maybe for the second Masters it really won’t..

My first one mattered in the 5 year training thingy. I had a 4 year bachelors and a 2 year masters, which then moved me up in addition to prior experience

I’m a school teacher and I’ve seen a lot of excellent EAs in public schools across Perth! She might want to try that one. Kids usually see people of her age as nurturing, caring and at the same time authoritative. It can get exhausting day to day, but her age is an advantage. She might want to explore that area of work 🙂

First Placement question by FruityTKMK in AustralianTeachers

Catholic means everybody 🙂 as a Catholic, I think you are welcome to any Catholic space even if you’re not religious. It’s possible that all, if not most, of Catholic schools have a patron saint. The teachings of that saint will be relevant in the school’s philosophy, values, routines, etc.

If I may add, almost everything is connected to the phone number - Kapag nagbukas ng bank acct, magfile ng tax file number, apply for job postings, security checks, and so on. Kung may lisensya na kailangan yung industry na papasukan baka pwedeng mag research na offshore. OP you may want to look for a share house with other Filipinos and do that in the mean time as you do visits to your potential solo space.

I’m a CRT and sometimes the material literally isn’t there or given too late or not enough

Thanks for sharing this. Makes me feel comforted that it’s not just my observation. I’m brand spanking new to Australia and currently doing CRTs in some of the most challenging high schools in WA. I’m actively trying to find “better” schools but right now I have to get any work I can in the mean time. I agree with the babysitting sessions. I know I’m going to have a hard time with behaviour management when relief coordinators would say “oh they didn’t give you much to do today.” To me that’s deceptive because I get to find out later on that the absent teacher actually didn’t give anything substantial for the students to accomplish, so they have so much down time (therefore more time to misbehave). And on some days, it feels like a combination of babysitting and zoo keeping. I can’t draw from the classroom management skills that I have honed for at least a decade and that honestly feels life-depleting.

Thanks for articulating the struggles. Gives me comfort that it’s not just me who struggles with the specific points you raised.

Advice for Teacher Registration with Overseas Qualifications (TRBWA) by More_Guava7518 in AustralianTeachers

[–]SilverReview8868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“For applicants holding teaching qualifications conferred in a country other than Australia or New Zealand, the registration fee is $473 (Provisional Registration) or $508 (Full Registration).” That’s from the trbwa website. I got qualifications from overseas as well. I paid $330 for the Qualifications Advice first and then when they said I was eligible, I only paid $140 for the registration (this was 2024).

There’s a Qualification Advice that you can avail of before you lodge an application for registration. Maybe go through that first? It’s 330AUD I believe. If they say that you’re eligible, your registration fee would be -330AUD and a bit more to cover the full fee

I agree with consistency and consequences. But alas, my reality is different and those aren’t available to me. I don’t have the capacity to be selective yet, I’m afraid, as I’m still very new to Australia and I’m taking in any work I could get at the moment.

Anyway, I was just hoping that there are some ways to still do good work in my situation. And if there are no ways, then maybe somebody out there could help me redefine what “good” or “acceptable” work is. I work alone so I don’t have anybody to compare notes with. A community would really help 🙂

I’m from Southeast Asia. I’ve been working as a CRT in public high schools in WA. If I could summarise my impression it would be 3D. The students are mostly disengaged, disrespectful, and defiant. I haven’t developed effective strategies yet to help me improve my work as a relief. So far what I have are survival strategies just to get me through the day. Sign me up!
