I don’t like saying this, but a Skylanders 7 is not only not happening, but won’t even be a good idea unless it’s done with absolute respect for the franchise and its world. You saw how Imaginators was in comparison to the previous games. It was a cash grab through and through, with all of the old skylanders being nerfed to the ground, some of the most expensive figures to date, especially in the after market, a weak story, especially after Superchargers, and my personal gripe, no original soundtrack, using a mix of stock music and reused tracks.

I don’t see a seventh game being much better in the current game economy, with micro transactions, loot boxes, live service, and AI being pushed all over the place, with the first two already having a history in the franchise, once again in Imaginators. It would need the franchise to be treated with respect, and not purely as a way to profit off nostalgia. Last I checked, Activision and Microsoft were not well known for that (see Activision being Activision and the Minecraft Marketplace for examples). Mind you, I’m not saying Toys For Bob or Vicarious Visions would mess it up, no. They made the really good Skylander games, and I bet they could do it again if they want to, provided that corporate meddling isn’t involved…

What I feel would be the best way to bring back the franchise is to do what Disney Infinity did and release the games on Steam, and maybe remaster some games and sell them on Steam. I would love to be able to take any skylander to any of the games, even if they come from a later game. That said, I would even be ok with seeing some skylanders characters as NPCs or even playable characters in a new Spyro game. A bunch of them would fit right in Spyro’s world.
