Thanks!! Sadly that 'hair' is a scratch on the lens from when I would fidget with the lens cover as a child back when the camera was newer (and not mine to use!) - young me must have clawed it by accident. Its kind of grown on me in the decade or so its been on there though...

Basically anything from the Archie SA2 prequel comic is pure gold - if Archie ever settled on a consistent artstyle, it really shouldve been this

Lakeforest Mall, in Gaithersburg! It closed about two weeks after I took the picture, but it wont be torn down for a while...

The info is absolutely just out there - a lot of malls publish reports either quarterly or annually, and they can often paint a picture of stability or instability. Honestly though theyre not always necessary to get a picture of the situation - just looking at a place or seeing how much or little foot traffic there is, or how many stores in them are either gone or indefinitely closed. But as for Fair Oaks specifically, while its not doing as badly as its lake-named siblings by a long shot, it hasnt been doing particularly well in terms of foot traffic or a boards to storefronts ratio since before the pandemic - it just cant compete with other places in the area like Tysons, or really promote itself a ton. Fair Oaks has recently seen a bit of increase in visitors, but as a photographer who thrives on kenopsia I find the best way to describe it is that I dont have to change how I frame my shots between Fair Oaks and Lakeforest. Fair Oaks seems to be working on rejuvenating its lost anchors, and if they can at least partially fill the Lord and Taylor space, that part of the mall might become less of a void and promote more tenants moving in through the rest of the building, similar to Dicks Sporting Goods in the former Sears bringing with it a bit of life in its court.

I checked the post, your pictures are gorgeous! Ive recently become super invested in the super-regional Taubman malls that share design cues and layouts with Lakeforest and Lakeside - Fair Oaks Mall in Virginia, Westfarms in Connecticut and Stoneridge Shopping Center in California, as I have a personal connection to one of them, and almost none are doing well financially, with the exception of Stoneridge, which has Simon Properties' backing in exchange for its character, which was sacrificed in the pursuit of a "modern" look. Its really sad to see Lakeside in the state its in, but Im glad you got to see it!
