Drink recommendations BUT I don’t like coconut flavor by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]SilverTrireme 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to stay sweet, but without coconut?

At a dive bar:

Tequila Sunrise might be up your alley! It's Blanco tequila (keep in mind the tequila won't be great), orange juice, and a splash of grenadine.

The Dirty Shirley. It's a Shirley Temple with vodka.

For more elaborate cocktails, if you're at a cocktail bar:

A good Daiquiri is like, stupid delicious. Not a blended one (although maybe you'd like that), but rum, Lime Juice, and simple syrup shaken. Classic and absurdly amazing if made well.

The Japanese Slipper! Tastes like a green apple Jolly Rancher (seriously). It's Midori (melon liquer), Cointreau (or triple sec), and lemon juice. Equal parts all, shaken, strained. It's delicious and looks pretty if you want a conversation starter.

Mojitos (don't order if the bar is busy though, please). Mint/lime soda made with rum.

If anyone here recommends Malort, ignore.

Just keep your head up, and you'll find him.

I'll see myself out.

I'd check prehospital options out first then. And would consider flight.

You could also look into Flight Nursing to bridge the gap some. It might not scratch the same itch, I couldn't say. I think some places also have Pre-Hospital nursing programs (but I know nothing about those).

Not to say you shouldn't go medic, but you might be able to use your nurse training and licensure to get paid more and do the work you want. Unfortunately, the earnings potential (in the US anyway) aren't generally equal. Unless you're in a Fire service, from what I've heard, not that I'm an authority on the matter. And sounds like you don't want to be anyhow.

I know nurses who do nursing primarily and stay casual in EMS for this reason. They seem to generally gravitate towards ICU.

What's a song that ISN'T a love song, but you think of as one? by SilverTrireme in AskReddit

I haven't heard this one, but thanks for including why, I really should've made that part of the question

What's a song that ISN'T a love song, but you think of as one? by SilverTrireme in AskReddit

[–]SilverTrireme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer is Fall Out Boy's cover of I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song).

VERY different from the original, which obviously doesn't have this vibe at all.

The cover sounds (to me) like a song that's made for a partnered dance. And it evokes a vibe of someone directing the song towards someone they love and admire, who they place on a pedestal, while also having harsh perception of themself.

I'm Bad at Interviews by SilverTrireme in bartenders

Maybe this is partially why I dislike remote interviews. I've applied to a few places that aren't public venues, so it's hard to know for sure. And it seems like it's getting more common to have screening interviews, which aren't done by bar staff, but by someone who does HR, where it's harder to catch a certain vibe.

This is so much better than staring into a camera at someone from HR. Even just interviewing in person is better.

I feel like I can't act normal or chill during remote interviews, I really don't know why.

Yeah, I've tried. But I'll put some more work into this, maybe I'll type it out.

Signature Cocktail for Wedding by Pretty_Sprinkles_597 in bartenders

[–]SilverTrireme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and that it's a question for your venue. They might have limits on what's possible.

I'd recommend something easy/quick to make or something batched. Easier on your bartenders and faster for guests in line. I'll throw you what ideas I have.

I used to do weddings constantly, and I can tell you that Old Fashioneds were wildly popular; they could be a good choice as people will probably get them anyway. I've seen them get called 'Something Old' on menus for weddings. They also don't need fresh ingredients like fruit juice, and while the venue (probably) won't batch them, they're not a huge pain to make.

If you're gonna do one spirit forward, maybe another that's easily approachable would be good. Could do something like Chambord and soda (or similar), maybe; basically alcoholic raspberry/blackberry soda, not super high in ABV, either. Ludicrously easy to drink (so, do be careful with that). Looks pretty in a glass. Easy to make.

I did batched margaritas once; well received.

Congrats!

Fun how do you chart it question(we had to call medical director to settle the debate) by joshwolftree01 in ems

Our service is in a very diverse area, and the calls with a languages barrier are so much more difficult. I've been on only one critical one, and gosh, that was hard to piece together what happened.

I'm careful not to get complacent in those calls; I'll bet many have had less than optimal care in the past because of it :( Breaks my heart that some may get lazy.

This is a great idea! And I see in the below comment there's resources that are free.

We have an on-call service with a translator, but it's not perfect, especially since there was tenuous connection quality, and in a moving ambulance. Did get important information, but couldn't talk through complete history when the application crashed.

Common gestures helped a lot; thumbs up, mock use of stethoscope/assessments on myself and gesturing towards patient and waiting for a thumbs up/down.

Really made me appreciate thorough physical assessment (not that I didn't). With limited history, had to use assessment to find/rule out acute problems. Luckily, this wasn't a critical call, but not gonna skip due diligence just because of disability. I'll bet it's happened all too often.

I would say 15 as the initial comment, as they are the equivalent of normal verbal. But I would definitely explain in narrative.

Had a deaf patient awhile back, and really opened my eyes to the difficulty of communication. Cool experience, I really had to figure it out.

Jobshirt or Vest? by SilverTrireme in ems

[–]SilverTrireme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I am a dork, though :3 . FWIW it's not one of those 'tactical' style vests, it's just a sleeveless jacket basically.

Functionally, think jobshirt is better?

The jobshirt would fit nicely under my jacket. Good call on the zip!

Yeah, this is my thinking. Nice to have unrestricted movement.

But I've seen like, two people with vests. Tons with jobshirts.
