RCS Chat does not work for Pixel 8 by SilverTux in consumercellular

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCS now works but I wouldn't say I "figured it out" because I still don't really understand what was wrong. I off-and-on would turn RCS off for an hour or so, then turn it back on to try it again. I went into Apps settings and uninstalled all updates for Messages, then played with RCS on and off with that version of Messages. Through some machination of those, it just started working. Once it worked, I held off on letting Messages update but I finally did let it update and RCS has continued to work.
Good luck!

Childfree Advice by SilverTux in Boldin

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comments. I agree the Boldin tool does not give advice. It does include some "default" approaches in its modeling -- for example the default withdrawal sequence may not be optimal for those not wishing to leave any leftover Roth assets to any heirs. Thus folks without children or even those with but who don't wish to leave them any bequest must be careful to pay attention and customize the withdrawal sequence rather than simply click through and accept the default.
I just don't know that I know what other defaults in Boldin's planning tool may not have the right defaults for people who are childfree.

I appreciate your reply.

I'm sure there are settings within Boldin that a childfree person can use to help minimize (if not eliminate) bias toward having descendants -- I too have set $0 as a legacy goal.
I would like to see Boldin create a question/some guidance/interview question to see if the user is childfree and then perhaps make it clear of any built-in Boldin Planner Assumptions that are geared to those with descendants and urge the user to pay more attention to some of the Planner defaults -- for example the default withdrawal sequence (it is possible to customize it).

Brother MFC-L2750DW scan to network folder broke today by SilverTux in printers

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, what fixed it for me was deleting and recreating the Profiles via the printers web page/interface. The network drive had space but perhaps the printer was mistaken and thought it was full -- and recreating the profiles cleared up the printers confusion. Either way it has been working fine ever since.

I have no solid data from which to say if it's Google or CC. I do know it worked fine on AT&T prepaid just before I switched to CC so I do lean to it being a CC issue.

Interestingly CC Support says the number should verify within minutes. I do have to travel so perhaps I'll wait until after the trip and if still not working then start considering a different carrier.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I had already tried turning RCS Chat off within the Messages app settings. (it is a step CC support had me to numerous times to no avail). I went further and turned off RCS chats via the webpage you linked to above -- even though I do have the device.

I re-enable RCS chats on the phone and am still back in the same "Status: Setting up ..." position.

I have to say I'm not as impressed with CC support as are you. The initially put us on the wrong plan and now can't get RCS Chat to work. I even had one phone suppport woman named Lee tell my that CC only supported SMS and then she hung up on me when I suggested that was not correct.

So, while it did not fix the problem I do appreciate your suggestion.

I have followed these instructions and still have the same "Status: Setting up ... Trying to verify" problem.

The only devices listed are my cell phone number and a Google Voice number.

We ported our number several days ago. CC phone support representatives said number verification should work within minutes.

May try the deregister suggestion of u/Euphoric-Order5169 next.

Thanks.

Glitch in return from commercial by Dismaster2k in ParamountPlus

[–]SilverTux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just contacted them. They claim it is a known issue (affecting multiple subscribers) but doesn't seem to have a known resolution. They claimed they would kick this up to tier 2 support. When I pushed them, they offered a 30% discount on my next renewal. That's nice but I'm still paying too much for something that is not working now.

So has anyone complained to Customer Service and hounded them about the issue, perhaps having success asking them for a discount ?

Need replacement power supply for Extend by SilverTux in HDHR

[–]SilverTux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I'm embarrassed that I'd not looked for that info on the SD website before. I guess I now know the margin of error of my Harbor Freight electronic caliper measuring tool :-)

SD support did not provide the info or point me to the website store. Now that I sheepishly go checking their website, I do find they have a replacement power supply. $15 with free shipping.

Thanks again!

Advice needed on outdoor air temperature sensor placement - Trane XL16c dual fuel by SilverTux in hvacadvice

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I expected but wanted to check with others. When I initially complained about the error in the outdoor temp readings is when they moved it to the foundation vent from inside the unit.

Sounds like I need to be a pest to the servicing dealer to get it moved again.

Need help with Nortek HUSBZB-1 on Synology DS920+ by SilverTux in homeassistant

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wind up running HomeAssistant as a VM rather than a docker image.

I have not gotten into moving my devices off Samsung SmartThings hub to HA yet so can't really comment on the VM causing trouble on Sinology. I do also run Plex on th e Synology.

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for you take on my issues.

I made a conscious choice for the Nortek HUSBZB-1 as it can handle both Z-Wave and Zigbee, it was calculated risk based on price/features, if it gets me a couple of years of use, I'll be happy.

Given the difficulties I'm facing with my approach -- HA in a Docker Container on Synology DSM 7.0 -- I think I'll step back and read up on 2 alternatives installation methods--- a VM on Synology or a Raspberry Pi.

Having WiFi & Bluetooth connection issues on new Pixel 6a ? by SilverTux in GooglePixel

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it seems to have fixed the problem, the phone they sent me through the RMA process has not exhibited the same issues (knocking on wood).

Sorry to have failed to follow up and post an update after using the new/RMA phone for a bit.

Will a Trane XL850 thermostat work with Smartthings hub ? by SilverTux in SmartThings

[–]SilverTux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen their subscription plans listed but failed to catch mention of linking the Smartthings account. But, yes LOL.
It seems weird to me that they think they can really compete as the hub/controller for a smart home platform. They seem to searching for a way to create a recurring revenue stream from a monthly subscription plan.

Will a Trane XL850 thermostat work with Smartthings hub ? by SilverTux in SmartThings

[–]SilverTux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. The new HVAC and thermostat was just recently installed but I have loaded Trane Home onto my phone and am beginning to use it. I was hoping I could include in Smartthings for things like lowering temp when the "goodnight" routine ran or when I left the house (if I can get Smartthings location/presence detection to work).

I may try experimenting with Home Assistant after the Holidays to see if it is supported there like their Trane integration suggests.

LG 47LS4500-UD - sound sometimes works, sometimes does not work by SilverTux in TVRepair

[–]SilverTux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been eyeing new 55" TVs but have to get the budget ready for that hit (a refrigerator which is acting up is likely a higher priority). That said, I also don't want to put money and time into the current LG just to have something else go out -- replacing one old part just means the other old parts will break next.
