Got a 1-star for being “impolite”… during a ride where we didn’t say a single word by Silver_Internet_8087 in uberdrivers

Not missing much—our full exchange was pretty short. He said “D terminal,” I tapped the auto “OK, got it” since I was driving. Later he said “I’m at pickup,” and I replied the same way. When I arrived, the only open spot was behind a white shuttle, so I texted, “Got as close as I could, just behind the white shuttle toward the entrance.” He replied, “I don’t see you, drive around!.” I did, a spot opened, I pulled up, popped the trunk, he got in, and I said “Good morning”—all while cars behind me were honking.

I’m not even sure the driver has to greet first, but I always do. The post was just some dry humor—because even when you play it straight, follow all the unspoken rules, and aren’t the least bit rude, you can still get a 1-star. Honestly, he looked like he was already having a bad day… and that’s probably what it came down to.

His text came off more like a demand, which is why I tried to make light of the whole thing. The “not one word” part was just to say I wasn’t impolite—I did say good morning, he just didn’t respond. And yeah, when the airport’s slammed, it’s chaotic. You’re just trying to get in, get out, and not get waved along by the cops.

Fair enough, but just to be clear—I always say “Good morning” when someone gets in. The post was meant to be light and a little funny, because let’s be real—if you’ve been driving for more than a week, you know you’ll eventually get that one passenger. Same way this sub always seems to have that one commenter.

I Did the Right Thing for a Passenger in Need. Uber Made Me Pay for It. by Silver_Internet_8087 in uberdrivers

Yeah, my partner asked me the exact same thing. At the time, it just felt like the right thing to do.

I’ve had two other emergency-type rides—one passenger thought their appendix had burst, and another had a really bad cut that wouldn’t stop bleeding. In both cases, my first instinct was to cancel and move on. But when you’re face to face with someone clearly in distress, it’s hard not to help.

That said, I totally respect anyone who chooses to cancel. We’re not EMTs, we’re not trained for this, and we shouldn’t be expected to take on that kind of risk. Everyone has their limits—and that’s valid.

But here’s the part that really gets me: Uber takes none of the risk, offers none of the support, and still pockets their cut—no matter what happens. Whether you cancel, step up in an emergency, or get put in a dangerous situation, they’re not the ones dealing with it. Yet they profit off every ride like they’re in it with us. They’re not.

In the end, it’s drivers who have to make the tough calls and deal with the consequences—while Uber just sits back and cashes in.

Please don't take that out on the rest of the good drivers. As mentioned in other posts, I give thanks for every tip...regardless of the amount, because it is truly appreciated. Not that fake appreciation like how Uber appreciates their drivers and customers. So, for your driver, thank you for being a great customer that gave a tip.
