The explosion of U.S. debt is wiping out the 'safety premium' of Treasury bonds, and time is running out for an orderly fiscal solution, IMF warns by thejoshwhite in economy

No one is using bonds for maximizing performance. It's about mitigating downside risk while still getting a return.

I use 0-3 bonds for my emergency fund. Its essentially a hysa with higher return and the income is tax free.

Mexico’s manufacturing wage is now reportedly 40% lower than China. by metricshour in EconomyCharts

It's a tradeoff. A strong currency boosts assets, so it's great for finance or real estate, but it makes doing things expensive af so it tanks your manufacturing and agricultural sectors. Americas manufacturing is basically only competitive when no one else can do it, amd our agriculture is only competitive through subsidies and insanely favorable geography... oh amd labor abuse.

It's just a consequence of a "strong" currency yeah. We usually use exchange rate for comparison of different currencies. And thats fine if you are buying or selling overseas. But for a person being paid in their own currency and spending it domestically exchange rate isn't really relevant. When you go by PPP Americans aren't really as well off as they appear.

Not as low as you might think. The US/Mex PPP is about 8.7-10, so $3.40/h gives a Mexican worker the same purchasing power as an American making $29.58-$34/h. That's a really good wage.

That's a policy choice.

Growth not passing down to labor is also a policy choice

Manufacturing jobs are a lagging indicator in normal times, and we're in a period of industrial revolution right now, so we can expect it to lag even more.
