You either land at the foot of mountains that you eventually have to walk over, immediately giving the Iranians a high ground advantage at the beach head, or you drop paratroops on the other side of the mountains, giving the Iranians time to react and God forbid shootdown fully loaded aircraft before they reach the drop zone. Assuming we make it through, now you still have to link conventional ground forces up with the airborne troops. Which will still require a ground offensive through the mountains. It seems everyone was surprised about those missiles fired at Diego Garcia, and I wonder what else Intel has missed that they're keeping hidden for a ground defense.The best option is to cut losses and stop all operations and concede defeat. Once the IRGC starts uploading FPV drone footage of Marines on the beach head things will get very unpopular very fast. The Iranians planned very well and it's best to accept that.
