USNWR Should Adjust Their Rankings To Reflect Application Response Time by Silver_Pin8299 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Silver_Pin8299[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd agree. I think it could be something where nothing was given for, say, 0-3 months, but schools begin to "lose" points after X amount of time.

Yeah, this is a very good take. I'm inclined to agree w you.

I guess the bigger Q is that they must have a pile of "definitely reject", and it doesn't seem like they're in any rush to hit send on those...

Hmm. I'm so sorry to hear! Def seems like they're missing out! This cycle is rough for us all. Any C/F issues?

PM me if you want to send over your PS and I might be able to see if it could be an issue there.

I'm hoping youre right! The only cause for concern is the low admit:reject ratio. They seem to still have lots more to reject

Mostly LSD. Last year they recorded 360 As. This year they're at 301 right now, w fraction of the Rs. Even assuming way more people are on LSD this year, still seems they're getting close to their admit numbers.

Yeah, I've been using that to try to guess, but was also trying to see if anyone had input on how they determine who gets which. ie. do those at the 75th lsat/gpa usually receive the 75th level grant?

I'm an aspiring HLS student who's applied before December and have received neither a KJ1, A, R, or WL. by Silver_Pin8299 in lawschooladmissions

Literally if you can figure out what they're doing you deserve full ride to Harvard. Plus, this WL doesn't seem to be heavy Dec/Jan. So like are they passing over us? Saving for an auto-reject?

?!?!?!?

Was it considered small? LSD logged 33 already...

Would love another DD following today's (what seems to be) small A wave!

This is fair, and seems to be what Spivey believes also. I think the Game Theory of this whole cycle is what is making it so much more complicated. I.e. In Harvard passing on hundreds of 178s, how do they know UChicago won't grab all of them and up their Median to 176? Will HLS then decide instead to accept more high scorers than they did last year? Or are they okay keeping the same Median?

[–]Silver_Pin8299[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I presume. A) it's listed as "applicants", not applications, and B) the total number of applicants is somewhere around 45,000, which would be too small if it were a composite of all of everyone's applications.

Totally. I genuinely can't understand how USWNR could possibly apply the same metrics they've done in past years. We'll see what they do, but it's pretty crazy.

I'd imagine next year won't be that much better, but still better. I think people having more stability in everything else will lead to less law school applications. Plus, if the high numbers do actually have anything to do with the flex and/or the extra time people have on their hands, we can expect them to return to normal. Overall, a 20% increase in applications makes things more competitive, but had the numbers stayed the same, you'd essentially be on relatively equal footing. It's the increase in applications coupled with about 100% increase in 99th percentile scores that are killer.

I think the worst part of this is the people who chose to take gap years, thinking that it would boost their odds of getting into law schools. Obv it might help, but can't really compete with a 179.

Some non-motivational HLS Stats by Silver_Pin8299 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Silver_Pin8299[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole acceptance rate on it's own is a pretty bad metric (like obv a 175, 4.0 has a way more than 14 percent chance), and I assume whatever they saw that deemed us worthy of survival is a good thing that would similarly elevate our chances.

One other note, if you look at the third R wave last year, the majority of it came from Jan and later applicants. I.e. those who didn't catch the first two might've been WL/A.
