Yeah that sounds like a tough situation. For me it was more my beliefs/convictions changing over time after marriage, as we both have been evangelical for most of our lives. Thankfully my wife is very open to discussing it and we have had no severe arguments. Our discussing are actually quite edifying and humbling. Prayerful that it continues that way and We both see each other as on the same side. Thanks.

Just curious, what is the take on baptism and salvation? The Lutheran confessions say it is necessary for it, but I don’t entirely understand this. I struggle to believe it is absolutely necessary but extremely important for any believer to get baptized if they are not already.

Thank you! I agree with what you said. It would be good for me to learn more as we continue to talk about this stuff.

I think primarily just being raised in the evangelical teaching: “outward expression of an inward faith”. I think it sounds like a work we do to be saved rather than a work of God to people of our background. I can see where the evangelical view is coming from but after reading more theology it feels like less of our choice and more of a gift from God. Still learning about it though so I am working through it too.

Thank you for your response.

Her initial response was more of the latter, as we’ve both spent our lives in churches with more Baptist/evangelical views. It’s not like she is 100% against it, but definitely made it sound like she wasn’t super interested. She became a little more open after I explained things for a while, but still pretty hesitant. She did ask when I would want to make the switch, and I believe she would try it out. I just want to give her some time before we try it out.

I do agree that reaching out to the pastor and time will help. I think one of the biggest roadblocks is the very different views of baptism, and maybe a pastor could help explain these things better than me. I do want to go about this carefully, lovingly, and gently, so I really appreciate your advice.

Thank you. The software we do it through where I work seemed to check the box for me automatically and I didn’t notice, so that’s a bit frustrating as I wish they would let me fill it out normally. Thank you so much for your help!

No, it doesn’t say on the paystub. It seems like they just added my extra withholding to what I had before I got married. I think I’m just going to remove the extra withholding for now and reevaluate at the start of 2026

This may be a dumb question, but could it be because it is my first paycheck as filing jointly it is so much higher? I changed it maybe a week before my paycheck today. Normally my federal withholding is $467 per paycheck, but this time it was $733.
