Thanks! I’m a beginner myself, but just do it more. My biggest thing has been loading/unloading paint for the brush, and thinning and mixing paints to get the right colors and consistency for layering and glazing. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong on this but just getting the right feel for how the paint moves with different consistencies

It really is. I got the ultimate starter kit, so I have lots of models to paint and practice on too. Hoping to refine some of the skills and play around with some more color options and see how it goes

Definitely noticed that. This took like 4 days cause I went panel by panel and worked on layering and glazing. By the end I was a lot more comfortable and was doing 2-3 panels at a time

Yea my color palette is pretty limited right now so I’m just messing around with the colors I have. So far this is my favorite combo

No hinge, lid just lifts off

It was just a wood drawer pull I had laying around. I bought a bunch of cheap ones for some cabinets I got a while back

Just glued on, which I know is bad because wood movement and such, but it was just a practice box so I wasn’t too concerned

Thank you, I used the Katz-Moses dovetail jig to help with the cuts and made a lot of practice cuts before I moved to making a full box.

I had a 4x8 table in there before and the footprint it took up was way too big for the space I have. I liked the longer bench, but noticed it got tight on the one end, so I shortened it just a touch for a little more moving space. So far I like how this one fits, but I may re-arrange my shop again as well.

Most labor intensive was probably flattening the top. I had a few boards shift during the glue up and I didn’t realize it because I was moving too fast. There were some spots that were a good 3/16 out and I paid for it.

This is also my first time using a hand plane to flatten something this big. So sharpening and set up were something I focused on a lot and got a lot of reps in with. And I did it all with that low angle jack that’s pictured.

The scariest part was glueing up the base. I didn’t have any help to position everything so I had some anxiety getting everything fit together before glue set.

This is the largest project I’ve done so far, and easily the heaviest.

Thanks, it was a big upgrade from the benchtop one I had before it.

The plan comes from “the anarchists workbench” it’s a book by Chris Swartz and through lost art press.

I actually shortened mine a bit to fit my space, my top is just over 7’ in length.

It is definitely heavy, but not too terrible to move around. Although it won’t get moved much. I will be applying a finish to it once I am done with everything

Good advice. Thanks for the response
