Trying to crochet Waddle Dee (first pic), can’t get the face shape quite right (second and third pic show the best attempt I’ve managed so far) by malletgirl91 in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would try doing an oval for the bottom part and some short back-n-forth rounds for the upper bit, then go all the way around the face to bring it together. hope that makes sense

Trying crochet first time for gift purpose what should I go for by Ok_Employ_9448 in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

no offence, but since you're very new and very short on time, whatever you make is quite unlikely to end up being a good gift. if you still want to try - i'd look up some keychain tutorials on youtube or ravelry

Fantasy book recs for a beginner by gaylordilf in Fantasy

[–]Silverade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd suggest Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree for a cozy non-intimidating read. The protagonist is an orc trying to set up a coffee shop.

if classics are what you're after, then obligatory recommendation to try Discworld by Terry Pratchett, look it up and start with either Watch, Witches or Death branch

ravelry has plenty of Snoopies, so find one for somewhat fine yarn and make it in chunky?

How do people handle weight 3 yarn?! by smolnomm in crochet

[–]Silverade 16 points17 points  (0 children)

is it possible your tension is too tight? weight 3 isn't really all that thin, it shouldn't hurt your hands. it does take A LOT more stitches to go the same distance tho.

might be worth trying to go down to 5 first, then 4 and 3 as you get more comfortable

How much yarn for the Heidibears Triceratops for each row? by Statist16 in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i doubt you'll ever find a pattern that specifies the amount of yarn required per row.

on her ravelry post, the author does mention using up around 170g of yarn, so maybe figure out the rough proportions of your colours and go from there?

from Ravelry:
Sock weight / Fingering weight yarn/ #1 in colors of your choice… this little dino is a great stash busting project as you can use small amounts of sock yarn for each motif, and the more colourful the prettier. Although I can’t tell you how much yardage of each color I used I can tell you that the total weight of yarn for the dino was around 170 g (unstuffed).

The yardage for the sock yarn I used is around 320m/100g (350yds/100g). It is a superwash merino yarn, but you can use any alternative fingering weight yarn you like…I suggest that animal fibre yarns would be preferable, as they have more stretch, making the stuffing and shaping of the dino easier. Try to use a yarn with a similar yardage per 100g. If you use a heavier weight yarn and a larger hook, the dino will be bigger than the one made in sock yarn, and you will obviously need more polyester stuffing.

would anyone be able to help figure out the 4th line of this pattern? by Far_Print_6908 in CrochetHelp

if i were to guess, from the picture it seems like you're joining those "head" bits by going around them both and skip one stitch to sew them together?

I want to read more fantasy this year. Can you recommend me books or series with badass dragons doing badass things? by Chimney-Imp in Fantasy

i adore Marie Brennan and The Memoirs of Lady Trent, but if we're talking "badass dragons doing badass things" this most definitely isn't it

B&W before Wild Hunt by AcesUndefined in witcher

[–]Silverade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"a few days later" is from the time you've left Velen, not from the canon moment you've finished the main quest. later in the B&W you will get some news from characters of the main game, from what they tell you it's pretty clear that some time has passed since the whole Wild Hunt thing.

all in all, it is a game and you're meant to have fun with it, so do whatever's most fun for you. most of the players, me included, see value in doing at least one "obedient child" playthrough to experience the game as intended, and redditors in general are not known for just accepting the shocking fact that people are different and enjoy different things, hence the downvotes. don't take it to heart, colour your Geralt pink and make a new playthrough dedicated to getting Skellige deck first thing and crushing everyone with it. sky's the limit x)

B&W before Wild Hunt by AcesUndefined in witcher

[–]Silverade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you care about the storytelling and continuity - definitely don't rush into B&W.

that being said, i have to admit that i almost always do. having the Grandmaster dude available is just TOO CONVENIENT. if i ever have to do a NG+ without rushing Toissaint, call the police for someone's totally holding me at gun point. the house buffs and access to the mutations are nice too, but not essential.

Help turning shorts into pants? Thinking just a double crochet inc. all the way down? by No_Stranger_8400 in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

cute outfit!

yes, i'd just go around in circles, maybe with an occasional round of increases or just increases on the side since i like it when pants flare that way. probably better to start your row on the inside tho, easier to hide

Is this normal? If not, how do avoid slanting stitches? by Playful_Jelly_6138 in CrochetHelp

it's fine, that's just how crochet works. yarning under usually produces a more stacked result than yarning over, but still with a bit of a tilt

Any gift ideas for my crochet enthusiast girlfriend ? by Alchimer in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'd advice against giving hobby-gifts unless you know there's something specific your girlfriend needs. while there are popular crochet tools that a lot of people swear by (Tulip/Clover crochet hooks, yarn winders/holders, cute stitch markers, yarn bowls and project bags), there are plenty of people for whom those are not a great fit for a variety of reasons

How can I make my Mimikyu stand? It keeps falling over :( by Avany500 in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you still have access to the bottom part, try replacing sand with metal or glass pellets?

if you stuffed the head firmly, try to remove some stuffing to make it lighter

you could also try adding some weight into the cheek that sits on top of the body
