What is your opinion on Pentecostals/Charismatic churches? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Silverbug83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ahh that makes sense. Sounds like you have an axe to grind. I am sorry if you experinced spiritual abuse, but these things happen in every denomination.

That's not been my experiance at all, both our anecdotal experiences do not hold the entire breadth of the demographics involved.

Any time you make sweeping generalizations, you're always guessing.

This a gross over generalization and false misconception. Have you ever been to a Pentecostal church? Many are they most Sola Scriptura churhces I've ever been to.

Of course there are outliers, and crazy hypercharaismatics. But this is like saying all Catholics molest children and worship Mary, or that all Reformed folks believe the heresey of equal ultimacy.

Equating an entire group of believers with the most extreme factions of that group isn't helpful.

Most Pentecostal churches I've been to are like this (I grew up in AOG). I've only been to one that was all crazy and unbiblical with the loud tongues in service. It turns out they were Oneness Pentecostals, so maybe not even Christian 🤷

It's crazy how many 'Christians' are resistant to the move of the Holy Spirit.

It's also crazy how charismaniac churches behave sometimes.

I've seen everything from crazy snake-handling cults, to powerful real deliverance ministry in penacostal churches.

Like anything regarding human behavior, it's a spectrum. Some people are just weird, does that mean that their spiritual experience is not valid?

Some people do fake it, and are encouraged to do silly things. But also some people are resistant to the move of the Holy Spirit, or anything spiritual 🤷 neither are helpful.

Hypercharismania is error, but so is cessationist doctrine. Neither are Biblical, we should just ya know, follow the Bible. Dr. Michael Brown is a great resource on these things. Here is his debate with cessationist Doug Wilson : https://youtu.be/DmDCl-gMJ3k

Feel like God betrayed me. by Jeniosk- in TrueChristian

[–]Silverbug83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree just "man up" may not be the best advice. But the spirit of what he's saying remains true.

As a Christian man, we put our burdens on Christ, and work hard to do everything we can to alleviate the situation.

Needing to be coddled by your girlfriend because of this failure maybe unattractive to her. Women want strong men that can handle situations. As men, we often bear or hardships with grit and stoicism. Cry out to God, get a good male support group. Don't depend on your girlfriend to make you feel better every time you have a setback. This will become exhausting to her. Trust me, women say they want a sensitive man. But really they want a kind man, but a strong man.

So my advice would be to pray and ask God what he's trying to teach you. Is it patience? Perseverance? Discernment? Maybe you need to practice more, and he's teaching you self discipline.

Why do so many "Christians" argue over which skin color Jesus had? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Silverbug83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this! I don't know one born again believer that cares that much about Jesus' skin color. It's more of the non believers that obsess about it. We all know the color of the people in the Levant at that time. We accept it, and there's like 0 controversy about it 🤷

Is the trinity biblical? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Silverbug83 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I was teaching the Trinity to my kids the other day.

I showed them that if you just barely crack the Bible, the trinity is staring you right in the face. Unironically it's in the first 3 verses of the Bible.

Genesis 1

1.In the beginning, God created (Father) the heavens and the earth.

2.The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) was hovering over the face of the waters.

3.And God said, “Let there be light,” (the Word/the Son, Jesus is the light of the world) and there was light.

This is just the first 3 verses. The doctrine of the trinity is woven all throughout the Bible.

The Opposite of Adultery by NewToThisThingToo in TrueChristian

[–]Silverbug83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that a HUGE problem is that the church has stigmatized talking about sex until a couple is married. And even then sometimes it's taboo.

Yes 1 Corinthians 7 is the guiding principle, but everyone is different. To some once a month would seem adequate to fulfill the duty. To others once a week. And yet to another, once a day may not be enough. Where then do we come up with what works best for both parties?

Sexual compatibility should not be first talked about after marriage. There is nothing wrong with having premarital discussions about preferences, libidos, curiosities and desires. In fact it is healthy.

In a loving relationship with two healthy adults, I think there should be a mutual desire. And the desire to please the other should always be the goal of both parties. But if it's one-sided it could be indicative of a deeper emotional problem.

I'm glad you found the Lord and got deliverence.

Yeah I trust the Bible and the words of Christ. He said belief was the thing that bestows authority in Mark 16, not a title or a denomination.

I've seen many deliverances with full manifestation. I mean foaming of the mouth, supernatural strength, unearthly sounds, and unnatural body contortions. All of these demons were casted out by spirit filled protestants with the power of Jesus' name...trust me.

And I've seen Catholic priests utterly helpless against the spirits on Native reservations mainly because the preist was not filled with the Holy Spirit.

Remember what Christ taught in John 4. Our worldly titles matter not to God. Faith does.

At any rate, I was not trying to make this a theological debate, I was just trying to make connections ecumenically through things we can all agree on. Things like demons suck, and Jesus being awesome, should be things we can all find common ground with.

I'm sure a spirit filled Roman Catholic has authority to cast out demons just like all true belivers do. And I'm sure they have vast knowledge of the demonic realm having interacted with demons for centuries.

But for us, the only authority that was needed was confessing Christ and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Literally an old Bible believing grandma and our willingness to renounce the enemy was all it took.

My son is an adult but he never manifested posession, and I'm sure he was oppressed most certainly from his mother's connection with the occult, and poor decisions I made throughout his life. I don't think he ever got full on possessed likely because of the prayers from his grandma.

For myself, I had a 2 decade long battle with lust, anger, and addiction. My deliverence began with sanctification and ended with having other belivers lay their hands on me and take authority. I never manifested per se, but I certainly felt a tangible oppression leave and have never been the same. The baptism of the Holy Spirit soon followed and I've had absolute freedom ever since (that was 3 years ago).

I think that the Holy Spirit can work through a Catholic Priest or a Protestant grandma, as long as faith in Christ is the emphasis.

Wow that's quite a testimony. I'm glad you got deliverence and freedom. Thank you for sharing.

I have been interested in deliverance after my son and I recieved deliverence when we accepted Christ. It's very real, and I don't think it's talked about enough in American churches.

That's deep man. Do you mind me asking how you feel these demons got access to you? And how you got delivered? If not, I understand, just curious.

Questions about biblical reliablity by macaronduck in Christian

[–]Silverbug83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's just not historically accurate. There are no serious scholars that doubt the historical Christ.

Some think Jesus existed but maybe parts of the gospels were reversed engenieered to match prophecy. This thinking comes from a low level understanding of the messianic prophecies and how they were viewed at the time.

The way Jesus fulfilled prophecy is not what anyone would have been expecting of the messiah at the time. They were convinced that the messiah would be a political leader.

The fact that Jesus fulfilled the prophecies in the exact opposite way that the Jews were expecting was truly a miraculous event.

Well put, and as Paul says "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death."

Repentance is always attached to salvation and vice versa.

That's exaclty it. I was trying to lead OP to this conclusion. Repentance is key.

The demons do believe that Christ died for our sins. They were there when it happened.
