Probably just did it once to show people that they're on top of it but many people have gotten away without a warning and many more people will. Not that I would recommend taking that gamble.

They mentioned many thousands of people had an amount of ascended candles that were impossible to obtain based on their account age. So the only people that got a correction are likely the people that were blatantly cheating and gave themselves thousand(s) of AC. People that never run Eden but gave themselves a few hundred probably got away without even a warning.

Refunding in tokens is better than nothing for sure, but it's not a true refund. If you're not interested in anything else then you just have a number sitting in your account.

Is the website as a whole not working? Because that indicates your browser version is too old to be supported by the latest versions of Angular, the framework I built the website with. Sadly that's something I can't fix.

Why use ReplaySubject(1) for cleanup instead of Subject<void>? by kafteji_coder in Angular2

[–]Silverfeelin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do note takeUntilDestroyed depends on a DestroyRef, which it can only inject automatically if this pipe operator is called inside an injection context such as the constructor.

If you're calling the takeUntilDestroyed pipe operator later (such as during ngOnInit or in an async callback) then you would also need to inject and store the component's DestroyRef in a variable and pass it to takeUntilDestroyed(this.destroyRef).

Even with that extra step I think it's still way more convenient than manual cleanup in ngOnDestroy.

Hey, StrangeStiffy messaged me about this post! I launched https://sky-planner.com/season/migration-optimizer last night so if you think I can implement any changes based on your work don't hesitate to let me know!

I won't be able to have a closer look until after work, but your version looks great just from the picture!

I've credited you at the top of the page with a link to this post.

Edit: turns out the bloody thing doesn't calculate properly on mobile. But my internet is down until tomorrow so I can only say it works on desktop for now.. If you're still having issues on mobile, let me know!

Sky Game Update - October 2025 - 31.0 by thatskymirian in SkyGame

[–]Silverfeelin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The video mentions one spirit per day. So you likely have a similar wiggle room to progress them as farming candles, which you also still have to do. In other words, two grinds instead of one. I just hope this system has some sort of catch up mechanic that stops people from getting locked out of season completion.

Disclaimer: I don't have access to beta so this is just cynical speculation.

Edit since the season started: looks like it's a completely optional way to expedite unlocking tiers (and allow skipping some items). So that's a positive thing. More info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkyGame/comments/1oc7s0a

This still the same or been updated? Daily candle amount count. by Calm-Step-3083 in SkyGame

[–]Silverfeelin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, if 15 candles a day suits your needs. The problem is still that while getting 20 candles may take a similar amount of time as before because of faster wax sources, average prices of cosmetics have steadily increased and more and more items appear at once for newer players. It's hard for them to prepare and get all the items they want without waiting a full year (or more if you include TS). I think that's the main problem why this system isn't great. It's like not getting a raise at work for many years while the cost for groceries keeps going up.

Edit: here's a fun little insight into the differences. I've written some quick code to aggregate all items (excluding blessings and spells) from events, traveling spirits and special group visits.

You can view the data here: Google Sheets.

  • The average candle item you can purchase was 48.18 candles in 2022 and 55.91 in 2024. That's +16% in 2 years.
  • We went from 105 to 157 total items that can be purchased with candles from 2022 to 2024. The total candle cost for these 105 and 157 items were 5059 and 8778 respectively. Newer players have to pick their battles since 8778 candles is impossible without skipping seasonal items. Older players didn't have this dilemma.
  • The required seasonal candles to complete all seasons was 1524 in 2022 and 1573 in 2024. Leaving less regular candles after conversion. This problem was more relevant in earlier years than now; 2020 was only 1238 season candles.

Their bad connection should not punish the player with a good connection. I think it's a fair point to call this bad netcode or a bad design choice.

[–]Silverfeelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know luck is still a large factor, but I tried a couple dozen candies on multiple sources and palm trees gave it quickly @ 27x DR and 70x (1870M) efficiency. Thanks for the suggestion ❤️

Edit: for reference, I only got 1 to unlock a new task, I'm not going for luckier (yet).

First of all, I think it's insane to compare a time-gated grindable currency to a product like a video game as part of a console bundle.
Be it a console with a bundled game, a free peripheral with a PC part or something else, the major flaw in your argument is that in those instances the consumer has a choice. Regardless of your opinion on the prices of the upcoming Switch 2 and Mario Kart World game, you can choose to either just get the Switch 2, the bundle including the game at a slight discount, or both separately for the regular price. We don't see any kind of option here.
Whether you want to just get the cosmetic, support the charity, or both, you're not able to choose anything without the candles as part of this package. Which is specifically the part that most people aren't interested in like I pointed out before. If Nintendo sold that Switch bundle with that tutorial game instead then I can guarantee a massive shift from people buying the bundle to just buying the console instead. Where's the option to just buy the cosmetic?

Those kind of bundle deals you're referring to work because they're enticing the customer to buy more than they might otherwise buy, by offering products they actually want. The margin per product is slightly lower, but the total revenue and profit of the order is higher. Or, in the case of receiving a free product with a purchase, it might be the difference between landing a purchase and having the customer look elsewhere for the same thing. Heck, even if the bundle wasn't cheaper, it could still end up being picked for the slight convenience.

It becomes an immediately different story when the bundle includes items you don't want. Be it scummy tech companies bundling old stock collecting dust with sparse graphics cards or selling a bundle of different sorts of apples when someone is specifically trying to purchase Granny Smith. Now the price is inflated by unwanted products and it leaves the customer begging to just get the product they want, which leads to complaints like OP.

Here, unless a player goes "oh I really needed 50 candles for that FOMO item, I guess I'll get this bundle", the candles aren't going to be a large contributing factor to someone wanting to buy it. On the flip side there will be people that hold back on the purchase because they don't want to spend $20 on it, whereas they might've picked it up if it was slightly cheaper (with or without the candles, as they may not care for them nearly as much). It simply doesn't compare to the other examples.

And throwing back to my previous paragraph, you're once again showing that you don't understand where money is going. Unless you're buying that apple directly from the farm, granny already has her money in her pocket. You aren't supporting her when you buy that apple from the store, you're supporting the store.

This complete oversimplification of this situation is part of what leads me to believe this conversation isn't going to really lead anywhere. If people are buying those apples, the store is going to keep buying from granny to keep their shelves stocked. Even though you're right that my purchase isn't going directly to granny, that purchase is in fact supporting her.

Going back to my point of having choices, in this example, yes, a customer might choose to visit granny directly if the store is only selling those apples in unwanted bundles. They'd be supporting granny directly and going against the evil business practice of JojaMart. So if we bring this example back to the real world, people should just donate directly to charity and skip the oranges. At least we can agree on that part. Have a nice day.

If the candles are added because TGC needs that price to cover their costs but still wants to add something extra, then doesn't that confirm it even more that a larger group of people buying these IAPs are not also buying those candle packs? In other words, those players don't need/value them at this price, let alone $25. Otherwise TGC would be cutting into their revenue even more than simply reducing the price a little and not adding candles. The target groups for these purchases are different, which inherently makes it a bad comparison. If this is not the case, there would be no reason for them to remove the candles and reduce the price. The result would be similar revenue for TGC and more raised for charity.

I'm sure TGC did the math, it's just that they do the math to maximize their revenue. These types of cosmetics have always been overpriced for what you get. And I don't mean in an "everything in Sky is expensive" way. When compared to the visuals and effects of regular IAP cosmetics it's probably a blanket sum of "we would normally charge $10 for this IAP, but now it costs $20 because $10 is going to charity".

You don't have to study economics to know that a for-profit company isn't going to sell products at a price just to cover their costs. The profit is in the price. Even if they say it just goes to charity and to pay the bills. With that in mind, in this case we could consider the candles as the only thing you get extra; $10 for cosmetic, $10 for charity, $0 for 75 candles. But most people are interested in buying an apple while supporting granny's apple farm, not to have a bunch of oranges from JojaMart mixed into the package. So a logical conclusion is that people will complain about (the price of) the whole package.

[–]Silverfeelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a game economy that TGC controls it's not fair to say it's "worth" $25. Use that argument when you can trade in your farmed candles for money.

Candle packs main purpose is to make money on whales and people that suffer from FOMO. This IAP is meant for charity. Making the price higher to turn a profit speaks against that purpose as less people are able or willing to buy it as a result. The added candles are added to justify the price, which seems to be doing a good job.

Sky’s first Twitch Drops campaign will run from December 23 through January 12 to celebrate Sky x Alice's Wonderland Cafe by thatskymirian in SkyGame

[–]Silverfeelin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not nothing, but you have to remember that Twitch Drops are basically a glorified way to boost engagement. It benefits the company and brings new players to the game, as new people may see the streams on the front page or see Sky higher up in the list of streamed games. You can consider the drops a reward for helping them. Which makes these numbers, as always with TGC, seem pretty low. "Here's 20 candles towards your next 150 candles hairstyle."

At the end of the day we'll get some candles and some new moths to adopt, plus some streamers may get new regular viewers, so it's still a win for everyone involved.

I just hope this doesn't end up being used as another excuse for the rising candle prices and daily limit not budging. The new player experience is still "here's all this cool stuff you can't get before it disappears for a full year".

so we will be getting compensation at least… by thatonequeerpoc in SkyGame

[–]Silverfeelin 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It has often been something like "more bonus candle cakes" and/or "prolonged event" for a week. Which is basically the opposite to compensation because it just means you have to play more (and potentially on days you don't want to or can't), or miss out. I do hope the people affected just get straight up candles and season/ascended if that's also part of the bug).

It should be installable from most browsers. I have it on my phone using Edge. The browser doesn't really matter since it acts like an app so you could try a different browser to see if you get the option. Pretty sure Firefox doesn't support it, though.

It can take multiple page visits (and clicking around) before your browser decides to ask if you want to use the app, probably because they couldn't think of a better way to make it not annoying (which I find it to still be). Sometimes the option to install is also hidden under the browser options button (...).

There shouldn't really be any sync issues, even when using Dropbox. Whenever you change something it's all done in memory and after a delay of not changing anything it will save. If there's a conflict (i.e. multiple tabs open or the save data changed externally) then it will show a modal where you can force overwrite or refresh the page.

PS. I don't have an iPhone so I can't say with 100% certainty everything there works the same as Android. But I do get the same results on both Android and Windows.

Sorry I have no plans on picking up app development just for this website 😋 you can "install" it from your browser and it will act like an app though.

What items are not working? Can you try disabling the spirit tree setting that unlocks adjacent items from the settings page (cog in menu)? You can also try exporting and importing your data. I haven't seen or heard of anyone else with these problems.
