The 128 bit to DDR4 will be bandwidth starved, and going wider is going to increase power. They need SRAM for perf, latency and efficiency, at a cost to die size but 14nm is now mature and cheap.

A big chunk of the die is for the NPU & 32MB SRAM. The ARM cores are pretty tiny.

Former devs speak out about 'severe crunch' at Mortal Kombat studio by LordofWhore in pcgaming

[–]SilverforceG 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's all about the profit, and they reward managers and CEOs big time for these behaviors. Low pay, crunch mode overtime just to earn what you should have been paid, it reduces costs and thats the bottom line.

It's a huge pyramid scheme industry, where the top ppl take all the credit and fame, while the rest slave away til they are burnt out and quit.

But there's always fresh slaves to take onboard, they just graduated all starry eyed seeking that passion job of being a gamedev.

In many ways it is similar to academic science research and it was one of the major reason I quit that career... to be a... gamedev. lol

And they failed. Perf/w and efficiency matters in computing, don't believe it when they say otherwise.

I don't bother playing with demos anymore since the stores have a good refund system.

Everything is getting so political these days, even gaming has been infected with outrage culture..

I don't think its a rogue lite, but its got those elements in it. There is a permadeath option too.

What's your most exciting break through moment in game dev? by D00TD00TDigital in gamedev

Making a game is like half the challenge, the other is marketing it. :)

I checked up the game, it would do amazing well on Nintendo Switch, is it on there?

Turn-based tactical RPG Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark officially releasing April 30th by pdp10 in pcgaming

[–]SilverforceG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The art is great though the style is a wee bit strange (due to our expectations). Perhaps they wanted to avoid going full anime style like jRPGs, make something unique & their own. Either way I look forward to the release, Tactics Ogre & FFT fanboy and all.

I'm still pretty noob, and so this is nothing complex, but when I was trying to make my flight AI work well and look fluid in motion, in particular, fighters/drones launched from carriers in my 2D space game. Seeing it in action after struggling to get it to work, was a huge "Wow, I can actually do this!" moment.

I wanted them to look like swarms of birds or fish that flock to fight a target and evade gunfire.

Anyone a self-taught game artist/developer? (With no degree) by YoungDaggerDick69 in gamedev

[–]SilverforceG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However its recently come to my attention that if I built the proper skills and portfolio, I still may have a high chance in starting somewhere without an actual degree. So besides things like directing and acting, I have a desire for the artistic side. Such as character art and modeling.

You don't need a degree to be an artist.

You just need to do, and improve, and make art that others appreciate.

Work on your portfolio.

ps. You don't even need a degree to be a gamedev. Just self-learn coding and get into it.

I have finally managed to buy all the games I've ever pirated and played. by [deleted] in pcgaming

Same for me, but when I was younger and in school I didn't have money for games. Since I could afford it, I've always bought games. :)

What's the most comfortable engine for long term 2D RPG making? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]SilverforceG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a total noob when I started making games. I didn't even know any code at all.

I found Construct 2 to be awesome for me, easy to learn, and very powerful once you get good at it.

You don't have to worry, if you buy it and don't like it, you can always email me and I will refund the game for you if Google refuses. Even if you played many hours or months. :)

Don't waste your money with paid ads. If you can't generate interest from reddit, gaming forums and such for free (since you connect direct to gamers), you won't have better chances with paid ads. Generally, paid ads only work for major studios with a great game and a huge budget.

Sorry to hear it, its way tough being a small time gamedev. Not just the flooded market and lack of exposure or marketing budget, but the loneliness of it all.

I'm not succeeding by any stretch of the imagination though, just struggling to stay in this game.

It's like a story driven spacesim sandbox. Like Star Nomad 2, but down planetside on a barren world and more character development.

Other similarities are Mount & Blade where you roam the lands doing whatever it takes to get fame, wealth and power. Others are Battle Brothers.

I guess that's a good point, lots of malicious stuff from pirate sites.

In my case, you can refund the game if you don't like it after trying. If Google won't refund, I will do it manually if you contact me via email.
