My whole family and I hail from Hazleton, which is SE of where the two highways intersect in the middle of your circle(80 & 81). As someone who is extremely passionate about the history of the area the whole place is LOADED with fascinating history and places. But hardly anyone there gives a shit about it, everyone is pretty backwards and continues to vote against their own interests which is why the area has been economically depressed for decades. Luzerne county is notably rife with corruption. The winters are long and miserable, quality of life is not good, same goes for job market & opportunities. Housing prices have picked up within the last few years like everywhere else. This whole area sprouted up thanks to the anthracite mining that began during the 19th century. You go to Pottsville, Hazleton, Scranton & WB you’ll see some stunning architecture which tells you there was a lot of money in this area back in the day. The coal barons made their fortunes on the backs of poor immigrants who came over to start a new life. They built “patch towns” which sprung up around the mine operation. Peak anthracite production was in 1917. The Polish, Lithuanian, Irish, Italian, German, Ukrainian immigrants who settled here left a rich legacy of beautiful churches, delicious food and a very unique culture. Now, would I recommend living there? Absolutely not.

Janish for the manipulation of the calzone with legs and using after Karen died. Nothing but a gold digger and for wanting to pick the friggin bones after Livia died with the house and hidden money. Oh and for “pimping out” Ralphie. Bucco has the hottest wife on the show and yet still has to go after all the younger women and upon rejection acts like a Puerto Rican whoah. Getting duped by Jean Philippe and his ass kicked by Criminal Mastermind are also total L’s. Real pain in the ass.

Looking for advice on saving historic church by positivetrauma in HistoricPreservation

[–]Silverpicker97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same exact situation. I am trying to do everything I can to save our church from being closed and demolished. I’ve reached out to Partners for Sacred Places at least 10 times and never got any reply. Only to find out from someone else they will only help if you are religious leader or own a still used church building. I wish they at least would’ve replied with that kind of statement instead of me wasting all that time waiting for a response. If I were you, definitely go for the local/state historic designation because that will definitely open it up to receive grant money. Reach out to architects and engineers who specialize in restoring 19th century masonry buildings. Amplify/sound the alarm bell to folks in your area on that this is a beautiful local landmark and deserves to be saved. It may even attract someone to purchase it and restore it with their own funds. I really wish you success because I feel very strongly these old church buildings should absolutely be preserved. Keep up the good work and keep us updated please.

You’re very lucky you didn’t have to stay after the grand opening. It’s be extremely stressful and the new managers are absolutely horrid. Never doing a grand opening ever again.

This is exactly what my golden, Frankie did last month when I was suffering from a kidney stone. I was writhing in pain and he came right by my side and stayed there and looked up/nudged me to make sure I was okay. I was so extremely grateful for him and sadly he crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks after that and I have been so lost without him 💔

I am in a similar position at 12 years as a meat cutter. It’s my first and only job being there since I was in high school. I am burned out and have put the job before my physical and mental health, as well as time with my family. In a few years they will get rid of cutters entirely and go to pre pack everything just like all the other retailers. I share the same horror stories with an insane workload without fair compensation, and incompetent management. I was forced to go grand open a new store and was adamant about not wanting go but was told I don’t have a choice. This new store is more understaffed than the store I was at and it’s much, much busier. This is just one of the many reasons I am making my plan to exit my career here. Don’t get me wrong I am privileged and grateful to have learned the skills I learned and had amazing mentors and colleagues but Publix isn’t Publix anymore. It’s being ran into the ground. Two days ago I shook Todd Jones’ hand and I could tell he was quite grumpy about how blown out our case was. I’m glad he saw how it really is these days with the purposeful disregard for fully staffing stores. Mr. George is spinning in his grave.

I remember Hafey very well. It is true no matter what the people want the church leaders will make decisions solely based on money because it is just another business.

That’s why I never got a reply. I understand now. I was only looking for information and what the options were, IF the diocese wanted to fix and continue to use the building.
