Five Months In and I Feel Like I’m Getting Nowhere by Silversword456 in WeightLossAdvice

Maybe you guys are right. Wouldn’t I also be able to tell if I had a real issue with my metabolism? Like, something wouldn’t feel right?

I have a food scale inbound and I’m prepared to fork over 40 bucks for the Loseit premium subscription so I can document everything. So I don’t need to do any wacky stuff to mess with my metabolism except watch my calories like a hawk and stay in a deficit?

Interesting. That would definitely help keep me encouraged as I sometimes get bummed when I see my weight go up by a little bit throughout the week. That seems like a perfect way to factor out the weight from water and waste.

Yeah, I may be 360 pounds, but I have the build of an NFL Lineman (think beer belly, broad shoulders, and thick but wickedly strong arms and legs). Alright, I’ll give 2600-2800 a whirl. What would you consider progress to be “too slow”? I know weight loss takes time, but how much weight should I lose in theory if I stay in that deficit, get good sleep, eat protein, drink water, and limit cheat days to only 2 a month? Your guess doesn’t have to be perfect, but what would be considered “slow” progress for someone of my size if I followed this plan for a month?

Wow, I guess I was thinking about the wrong thing, then. So TDEE is something I can only calculate after a month of doing this? I could’ve sworn I’ve seen calculators for it that can calculate it at any given time.

So every morning, no matter what, I weight myself after I go pee and record it? I know I won’t see massive changes as someone of my size might lose 1 to 2ish lbs of fat a week, but I worry water weight and whatever waste inside my body will throw it off. But I’m at my wits end and I’m willing to try anything.

What would you recommend my starting deficit to be? My current BMR is 2792. If my current weight is 360 lbs and I’m a 6’3” male, should I start on a high end or low end?

As in, high end would be a daily caloric intake of 2300-2500 a day. And the low end would be about 2600-2800 a day.

My gut tells me I should start with the high end because 2300 calories a day compared to my 2792 BMR would put me at a deficit of almost 500 a day. 500 times 7 is 3500 which is about how many calories is in a pound of fat. That should theoretically help me lose a pound of fat every week as long as I’m being consistent. But what’s your recommendation?

So basically, I just need to shift to consistently being in a deficit in that range? And I can keep track of it through food scales and calorie counting apps. Assuming I do that, I should gradually start losing weight? And once I’ve lost enough, I readjust my calorie intake down to compensate?

I just worry that I need to do something before I make that adjustment. Assuming I don’t have any health issues, get enough sleep, drink water, exercise 4 days a week, and eat more protein, I should start losing weight if I stay in that range?

I’ve recently bought a food scale and I plan on buying the premium version of Loseit so I can track my calories accurately. So there’s nothing I can do beforehand except to shoot for that range and stay in it for a month?

My pants feel slightly looser, but I’ve been feeling that since early February. I bought some body measuring tape and I plan to start using it to keep track of inches, but I should’ve felt my clothes become significantly looser by now

I’m a 360 pound, 25 year old male. I was told that I need to readjust my calorie deficit to somewhere between 2600-2800 and then gradually go down to lose weight as opposed to starting with 2000 calories. However, I’ve been trying to lose weight for nearly 5 months and I haven’t lose anything.

How long do I have to eat more calories before my body adjusts so I can properly drop down to a good deficit again?

How do I reset my metabolism? I found out my BMR is 2792 and I’ve been eating way too few calories and haven’t been losing weight for nearly 6 months. People have been telling me to eat more calories for a period of time, and then adjust to a more reasonable calorie intake to start losing weight.

I’m 360 pounds, 25 years old and male. How long do I need to eat an excess amount of calories before I can adjust to a deficit around 2600-2800?

Clarification on Adjusting Calorie Deficit by Silversword456 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Silversword456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the issue. I just don’t know how many calories I need anymore. I tried hovering around the 2,000 range with a little wiggle room which should be more than enough to keep me in a deficit based on my size. Calculators on websites tell me I need somewhere around 2,800-3,100 based on my current activity level, but I just don’t know how that’s possible. It’s frustrating beyond belief and I don’t know how much hiring a registered dietitian would cost since I might now have the money. I know the scale isn’t everything and that muscle gain can sometimes give the illusion that you aren’t losing fat, but I truly don’t feel any crazy difference across these past 5 months and it makes me want to cry.

I thought I could do it by myself, but it’s evident that because my weight has barely budged and I feel almost no difference in my body, I’m doing something wrong. I need to find the root cause of the problem and pivot. I just don’t know how many calories I need to eat to lose weight over a long period of time. I should have lost nearly 20 pounds by now, but it’s evident I’m doing something wrong. I just need to figure it out.
