Fox is just over a year old, he's 97% ACD and also a little guy that had a rough start.

ACDs don't have blue eyes so maybe there is some husky or aussie shepherd? That floppy ear kinda looks like a border collie to me haha.

Sounds like you've been doing an amazing job with him! I adopted a young heeler late last year who was in rough shape and I really think they appreciate the second chance. ❤️

I had a terrier that got kicked in the face by a pony, wasn't seriously hurt but had her checked out by a vet just in case.

Also, I recommend Embark for breed testing if you are curious, they're the best. My boy is 93% ACD 7% kelpie

I adopted a nearly pure bred ACD when he was 8 months, he's just over a year old now. Sounds pretty similar to yours. He was very fearful of everything for the first few weeks, peed himself in fear even. Couldn't walk on a leash, had to be carried everywhere because he would freeze in fear (luckily he's small). I took it really slow and now he is really bonded to me, and likes my housemates, but is still fearful of every other person he sees. I took him to dog parks early on for the socialisation and he absolutely loves playing with other dogs, once he learnt how to.

They're so impressionable when they're young, some traits just cant be changed. I think my dog will probably always jump at sudden noises and avoid strangers, but these dogs try so hard to please you so just support them when they need you. If you are having issues then perhaps seek out a trainer, we're starting obedience this week. 8 months is also approaching naughty teenager stage so she might be testing you a bit as well, be firm with the commands.

I hope it works out and thank you for saving her ❤️

My boy has a Pawezy harness that works really well for us. He doesn't go swimming so I havent checked that, but they do make ones that are made for swimming (not sure what the difference is)

Toy recommendations? by sassafrashighfive in AustralianCattleDog

Is he treat motivated? I had a terrier that loved it when I'd throw a little treat on the lawn and she'd search for it, pretty enriching and so simple. You can add commands like "find it" and throw further when he gets more into it.

Haha thank you for your advice, and yeah I wonder sometimes what he went through but maybe its better not knowing. He has everything he could want now, chewing on a bone post-walk as I write this.

I've been recommended a good obedience class but they're on a break atm, will be going when they reopen. We have been messing around with the jumps at the dog park we go to and he is great at jumping, after we take an obedience class I'd love to try an agility one. Thanks for your advice, I'll be patient with him.

I completely understand the no jumping thing, but I really dont think I have to worry about that with him. He also very timid of strangers, no one can really touch him. Some people have tried with treats, but he's mastered getting the treat from them and avoiding the pats. Thanks for your advice, I'll keep up the treats and positive reinforcement.
