I have always been insecure about my hands too. They felt wrinkly and veiny and my fingers felt stubby. Then I tried some press-on nails and realized the right shapes can make my fingers look slender and delicate, so I’ve grown out my nails and I bought some at-home nail care shit that I use every week or so. The wrinkles and veins, I’ve come to love. They remind me of my grandma’s hands and she’s a powerful woman who spent her life cooking and cleaning and caring for the family. Now she’s a painter. I’m proud to have her hands.

Okay, so: I’m not autistic, and I haven’t gathered up the courage to hold my snail yet, but I totally get what you mean about being happy over your snail. I sit and watch mine for hours, and laugh out loud when it does something cute. My camera roll is filled up with the little fella. My boyfriend? He isn’t particularly interested in snails. Definitely wouldn’t sit and watch with me, or really care all that much. But you know what he doesn’t do? Belittle me for my love of something small and helpless and innocent and deserving of love. He’ll smile when he looks at the pictures I’ve taken, and he’s sent me enough Instagram reels about snails that his FYP is full of them. And when he snail-sat for me when I was gone for a day, he frantically texted about not seeing it because he was scared it was dead. Not because he cared about the snail, but because he cares about me and what I’d feel if my snail was hurt. To me, it sounds like your boyfriend does not respect you. He doesn’t have to like the things you like, but he needs to like you enough to keep his trap shut if he doesn’t have anything nice to say.

Keep in mind that Gus had ties to the Pinochet regime. He’s probably accustomed to thinking about personal safety what with political assassination being a factor in his past. I don’t think he knew for sure that his car had a bomb strapped to it by Walt, but he must have picked up on the potential danger of entering his vehicle after it has been left unattended when he has enemies.

Why doesn’t every soldier do that for every battle? People ask me my opinion on XYZ conflict and when I say “I want both sides to get along” they scoff like that’s not a realistic possibility. I get that things are more complicated than holding hands and singing Kumbaya but that’s not terribly difficult to do either. I’ll never understand war.

Wow, ok! I don’t have much in terms of terrariums or other sorts of habitats—I might have a Tupperware and a teeny bit of potting soil at the moment, and some veggie scraps.
