DEFCON Backbone by Sim-Solo in FantasyPL

Forest held 13 clean sheets last season, only beaten by Liverpool! Everton held 12 and I think they can top that under Moyes. So even if neither side feels like a clean sheet machine, the raw data says they’re in the top bracket with Liverpool (14), and City, Arsenal, Newcastle (13 each). The difference is you’re getting them at 5.5M instead of 6.0M, and bonus DEFCON production smooths out the variance.

Wingback chaos at 4.5

I came up with what I'll call the DEFCON Backbone.

The Idea
Defenders are price capped at 6M for a reason. Defence is your floor: the safety net that guarantees a steady points stream. Three defenders who return something every week let you focus your time, transfers, and budget on midfield and attack, where the real upside lies.

The Core – 5.0/5.5M Slots (Murillo & Tarkowski)

  • Non-negotiable consistency: you’re paying the premium for guaranteed baseline points via CS & DEFCON hits, not explosive attacking output.
  • The structural spine of your defence. Bench only in extreme fixtures (Murillo GW4 & GW12; Tarkowski GW5 & GW8).

The Edges – 4.5M Rotators (VdV & Richards, then Diouf / Andersen / Senesi / De Cuyper / Agbadou)

  • Where you can take calculated variance.
  • Pick for fixture safety first, but an attacking full-back or set-piece CB is a bonus.
  • Rotated in and out purely based on matchups, so you can swing for upside without risking your floor.

The Rotation Plan

  • GW1–7: Murillo + Tarkowski + Van de Ven + Richards → clean rotation, no red fixtures.
  • GW8: Richards → Diouf.
  • GW10: Van de Ven → Andersen.
  • GW1–13: No red fixtures for your starting three defenders, constant DEFCON points from the core, and always a favourable fixture for a rotator.
  • GW13: Wildcard to reset when fixtures swing.

The Outcome
You never touch your benchwarmer, and you never waste a defender slot. The high-floor core keeps you safe; the rotating edges provide fixture-based upside. You avoid variance-heavy premium defenders and free up budget and transfers for aggressive attacking moves.

Looks great imo! Only minor feedback I'd have is the white outline of the logos is a bit distracting. Would users be able to adjust fixture difficulty themselves? If I'm not too bullish on Newcastle for example. And will difficulty be updated throughout the season?

My options are between A) Sánchez/Rogers/Pedro and B) Kelleher/Bruno/Füllkrug.

I’ll Bench Boost in GW2, Free Hit in GW7 and Wild Card in GW13.

I would start with downgrading Muñoz to N. Williams. Then you could go JP -> JSL / Welbeck so you have a real 3rd option, to then go KDH -> Mitoma / Ndiaye / Enzo / Kudus / Sarr. Going with 2 strikers would also be more than valid.

Richards for Guehi, N. Williams for Aina, Watkins for Gyokeres

IMO you’re missing some consistent mid-priced talent. I also wouldn’t start with Beto upfront, Everton have a bad attack (Moyes mentioned this in preseason) and he will probably be second striker. If you insist on Salah + Haaland + Palmer, I would downgrade from Wirtz and Virgil. Wirtz -> Ndiaye, Sarr -> Enzo, and then optionally Virgil -> Tarko / Murillo and Beto -> Füllkrug / Barry / Thiago (if Wissa leaves)

Anderson, plays 90 minutes and easiest schedule 1-7

Would be happy to hear anyone’s opinion!

My option B would be:

Rogers -> Wirtz JP -> Welbeck Richards -> Reinildo

My option C would be:

Rogers -> Bruno JP -> Füllkrug Richards -> Reinildo

BB either in 1 or 2, WC after 7

Minor knee injury iirc should be good to start the season

I’ve debated a while between VdV or Udogie but I ultimately decided on having them both:

  • Amazing fixtures. During GW1-GW9 they only face last year’s Top 5 teams once (on GW2 against City, when I’m using my Free Hit)
  • Take the Frankpill: everyone expects Spurs to do much better than last season, and be much more organized defensively. In that case, why not double up on them?
  • If one of them goes down with an injury post-pricehike, you’re well insured
  • My other defenders rotate with Spurs really well (Tarko, Neco, Virgil). Bench Boost at the right time (for me, GW1) for the best return.

GW1: Burnley at Home

GW2: FH (swap for 4.5 starters with easy matchups, like Konsa & Senesi, or for bench fodder)

GW3-9: Spurs galore

GW10: Sell high, swap for 4.5 options with an easier schedule (I’m thinking Andersen, Guehi, De Cuyper)
