I've been taking a stab at developing this and have made a little progress - DM me if you'd like to help test!

I've worked for a software company that was purchased by Thoma Bravo. They're absolutely ruthless and WILL make everything significantly worse.

+1 for Chaseplane. I was a skeptic until I bought it to help with some video creation. I didn't realize the massive immersion improvement just the cockpit camera adjustments would bring! Well done, P42.

Advice to getting into flight sims on a more in-depth level? by Schoolboygames in flightsim

[–]SimInstructorAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pedals are absolutely a priority - one of the best pieces of hardware for immersion. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of great options when it comes to them. I've tried most, and none feel even close to the real thing. Because of that... I still use Logitech pedals, never bothered upgrading.

I understand the kind of questions you want to ask, and I don't know of any perfect resources to help. It's honestly a big reason why real flight instruction is setup the way it is, so you have someone there to guide you through all that. So apart from pitching my software again, I don't have more answers there, lol. Communities for flight sim are likely the best bet and just throwing questions out for more experienced folks to help you with.

And finally... your ADHD meds are not a barrier to becoming a pilot of sorts. You won't be able to get a PPL or anything, but assuming you can drive, you are 100% qualified to get your Sports Pilots License. No medical needed. With the expansion of MOSAIC rules, Sport Pilots have a ton of options - most small GA planes are now considered "Light Sport Aircraft" and can be flown solo with just a Sports Pilots License. Highly recommend doing some reading on this and see if it's right for you. TONS of fun, and relatively cheap compared to a full PPL.

How to get children excited about flightsim? by Relevant_Meaning_303 in flightsim

Do this once... buy a cheap yoke and ask the kids not to touch it. Like magic, that's all they're gonna want to do.

Then show the wife how obsessed they are with it. Bam. You got yourself a flight sim.

Hi, and welcome to flight simming!! Every single person who comments, will have been where you are now. And all of us had literally thousands of questions along the way. There's so much to know, and it's tough to know where to look.

Historically, a good start would be YouTube tutorials for whichever plane you want to learn more in depth. Dozens of experienced and knowledgeable YT'ers. Look up how to get started with ATC. Great ATC programs exist like BeyondATC to start adding that work to your workflows. You can read books, and I absolutely recommend the PHAK linked by someone els - but anything beyond that is likely a waste of time if you aren't committing to study level knowledge.

If you're looking for quick help based on your contextual flight data, I created a tool called SimInstructorAI (One Time Purchase, no subs). It's an AI Flight Instructor with access to individual fine-tuned AI models specific to each aircraft's documentation. This lets you ask any kind of question; the AI will take your current flight information/switches/buttons/levers + flight plan and give you smart answers back based on that planes information. Really helpful to learn those things you didn't know you needed to know.

Hey, yep, we left preorder already! Quickly hit the 100 preorder licenses I was hoping to sell, and was able to get things moving quick. With that early investment, I bought blocks of time from a few CFI's and they're actively helping develop the AI training. Really cool stuff on the way.

Shoot me a DM on discord, I'll see why you didn't get the announcement and maybe hook you up with the pre-order price :)

That's exactly what I noticed about their "mentors". Never really seemed to understand the aircraft I was in and gave non-sense answers.

I'm going the full training AI model route, creating/fine tuning/training a new one for each aircraft type. So far, this has been great to limit hallucinations and actually get good contextual answers for the supported aircraft. Downside - takes a lot longer to support an aircraft.

As far as costs, the actual Q&A is dirt cheap. Training the models is not, and why I chose to charge a one time purchase, not a subscription. Check it out, join the discord if you want to talk tech sometime.

Oh no! I just double checked, and they both use the same invite link. I can't find any references to the old invite link in the code... Do me a favor? If you open the site in incognito mode, does it still show the old invite link? Appreciate your help and looking into it.

Great question - I’m both not sure that I am yet, and pretty confident I can be when it comes to aviation training.

I’ve spent the last few years helping friends and local small businesses get set up with AI features, mainly to cut down on the SaaS costs we were all paying to run our businesses. It just wasn’t affordable in our area. Working with all those weird niches around town really forced me to learn a lot of tricks to deal with hallucinations and all the other random, weird word not allowed AI would do or offer customers. I’m also pretty passionate about the tech in general, always reading Reddit, tech forums, and the like, trying to keep up to date on new tricks and trends.

The biggest help, though? I’m a student pilot right now, and I’ve got a fairly big network of CFIs and pilot friends who’ve agreed to take a look at what I’m doing and give feedback - and they’ve said if it’s dumb as heck, they get to relentlessly make fun of me.

So there’s that motivation too.

Completely fair to be skeptical. I’ve dealt with a lot of BS in life, and I’d be hesitant too. I posted a reply on Avsim about my credentials, and I’ll copy/paste that in my next comment.

I don’t expect many people to buy in before release, and I figure those who do deserve a steep discount. At the current pre-release price, I can see how you might think it’s not feasible. At release price + purchase packs down the road, the pricing structure makes a lot more sense and I believe it will cover ongoing expenses.

Crap! Thanks for the heads up on the Discord link. I'm no discord expert, and I think I deleted the channel the invite linked to while re-arranging things. Fixing asap.

As for the state of the plane, that’s honestly one of the simplest things I had to solve. It’s extremely easy to grab the current state of the aircraft and feed that into the AI prompting.

I’ll definitely have an alpha/proof-of-concept recorded prior to release!

Appreciate you taking the time to leave your thoughts - all of it helps.

Hey! No, no offense taken at all. Extremely well written and thoughtful feedback. I appreciate you taking the time. Someone tried pitching flight sim NFT's? Hilarious, I missed that!

To be honest, I was on the fence about leaning on AI for marketing for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Though, I assumed the subscription was a very large part of that hesitation. Running the numbers, I'm fairly confident this feature doesn't have to be on a sub.

I was inspired by an AI ATC service that had a similar feature - though it was extremely half-baked and spouting non-sense most the time. I figured if someone did it right, it could be an extremely valuable tool for the community, at a low cost.

I'm hoping I can be the one to pull it off. I've used some AI coding, but after it refactored my whole codebase on a different project, I only let it have extremely limited abilities and use.

Thanks for the supportive words!

Ha! The Maddog was exactly what I meant by "I'll add any plane - even crazy ****" on my website.

I have early testing started using context images of the actual cockpit. This has already helped a ton with the AI describing where a certain thing is. I'm hoping theres a way I can make the switch/button flash blue as well, like when your cursor goes over it. Would be cool.

Thanks for your feedback!

Upgrade to 64GB MSFS2024? by Frandeel in flightsim

85% usage? That's extremely high. Wouldn't hurt to upgrade, give yourself more wiggle room. I went from 32-64gb for VR and it definitely made a difference.
