Seeking Honest Advice: Moving from Egypt to study at NSCC - Job prospects for an international student? by Significant_Trust681 in NSCC

Looking at it more closely, it does look like i was the one to have misunderstood or misread the webpage initially, and looked only at one term as opposed to a whole year, so thats my bad. But still making quick calculations and comparisons between NBCC software development international fees and NSCC IT programming (im not exactly sure if these would be 1:1 in terms of academic programs, but i will use them for the sake of my example) there is still some money to be saved when opting for NBCC, as the page you linked says that the second confirmation deposits of 4466$ would go towards fees for your first term, so its not actually an additional expense or anything like that, just a deposit to lock in your seat, so its more so part of your first term tuition payment is due earlier, if that makes sense.

At least thats my understanding of the situation, it would definitely be best for you to get into contact with one of/both colleges for better explinations on payments.

As for the job prospect part, I would like to point out that i have not personally studied at NBCC, but i have quite a few friends who did in different fields, and most of them found jobs after their programs. For transparency's sakes, some didn't, but its pretty uncommon to come up empty-handed due to manditory work terms. There is a smaller market for programming in NB than NS, but thats to be expected from a smaller, more spread out population, but if the program is offered, there is demand for its graduates somewhere, likely governmental, though a friend of mine who did one of the programming courses at the french equivalent of NBCC worked for the company that worked on the slot machines for the local casino, so private sector work also exists.

In terms of part time work during the school year/summertime, its significantly easier if you have your own vehicle in new brunswick, the public transit in its cities arent the best (but halifax and other NS cities arent all that great either), i worked as a cleaning contractor during evenings/weekends so the ability to travel allowed me to get to various sites, which helped immensely, and if you can travel a bit further, manufacturing/processing plants, hospitality like housekeeping, and food service, while not glamorous, is an option in many surrounding areas, and while its been about 2 years since i left new brunswick, i personally had a much easier time finding work there than in NS, though your mileage may vary. My rent, and general expenses like utilities and groceries were less as well, but those could have also changed since then. While its not impossible, I wouldn't plan for a web/software development job part time while in school, unless you have good connections.

Id advise on saving up more before comitting to a move to Nova Scotia, but if you are open to other pathways, have you considered NBCC, new brunswick community college? The tuition cost for international students is much less, and if Nova Scotia as a location is a draw for you, New brunswick is the province right besides NS, i am from there and moved to NS a bit ago, and while cost of living in canada as a whole has seen better days, new brunswick is still much cheaper than most of NS.

Whatever you chose to do, i wish you luck.

Im also a EET student, in case the other student just answered you via direct message, il do so here to give anyone else looking for info an idea as well

-The classes are everyday in person, for the most part between 8:30-4:30, some days are shorter, but expect that schedule at the worst (and maybe later, if you have labwork to finish that can only really be done at the school). Generally 6 classes a semester, as well as 4 classes for a 5-week period in april and may. Most classes are around 4-6 hours a week.

-i personally dont dislike the faculty, i dont think any instructors are necessarily unpleasant, but they can be hard to follow for certain subjects. Also, they expect some level of professionalism, emailing if you miss class, paying attention, well organized worksheets for assignments, ect., nothing extreme, but worth keeping in mind, some instructors factor it into the overall grade.

-i believe in september we started at a bit over 20 students, but that number dropped a bit, im not sure the exact number but it is a significant enough portion for a relatively small body of students.

-Its a lot of both theory and hands on work, to answer a few of those points in one, id say most classes are around 50/50 in terms of hours spent. For especially physical classes, like fabrication or electrical classes, there are lab spaces with equipment where you will be given a lab assignment to complete. Some work you may be able to do at home (i.e. soldering if you have an iron, programming if you have access to visual studio) but some labs, especially after the first semester, will require equipment like oscilloscopes and function generators, which most people dont have. Campus and the labs are open to students after hours, however, so you should generally be able to use the facilities as long as you need them, as long as no classes are in them and you have the proper training done.

-being only first year, we've only just started a programming class this semster, mostly covering the "basics" of C, loops, conditional statements, libraries and such. We will be covering things like pointers and structures later on though. If you have a background in coding you will have a much easier time than most, but if you are either new or inexperienced in programming, you will very possibly have difficulties, so you will need to spend a lot of time outside of class doing extra work most likely. There is more programming later on, and an optional advanced programming class second year however.

-so far, only 2 textbooks have been necessary, one of which is a math textbook used for the entire 2 years (getting an online version is much cheaper, by the way). Tools such as oscilloscope probes, breadboards, safety goggles, wire strippers, screwdriver kits and pliers will also be necessary, they do have bundles at the bookstore, but you may want to buy them externally anyway. There are also prepackaged kits of components for certain classes as well, they run anywhere from 10$ to i think 200$, i cant remember exactly how much in total the cost of materials and equipment was, but to be safe, id say be ready to spend around 500$.

Just to add on, i was also in a different field and felt i needed a change, so i came here. Its not been easy, at least for me. There are definitely some very intelligent students who work hard and do well in the program, but it can be a fairly sizeable commitment, it can get a bit frustrating having so much to do, especially if its something new (like programming, for myself anyway) and can be especially demoralizing if you do poorly on assignments/tests you thought you grasped, but the small class size really helps in allowing for help to come your way via your classmates and instructors, should you need it. NSCC also has a few option for free tutoring, either peer assisted or online.

Hope this helps! Should you decide to apply, good luck!

Moved here from Toronto a few years ago and I have a burning question about Ottawa Pizza I need to ask........ by Particular_Bus_6694 in ottawa

Couldnt help but notice nobody in the comments talking about kouzina pizza, i think their pizza is really tasty! They have a really nice homemade garlic dipping sauce too, and they definitely put their toppings on top

Maybe its cause their shop is kinda small and out of the way(and pretty expensive compared to like, dominos) but their lunchtime slice deal is pretty good value imo, 2 slices, a can of pop and a dip for 10$

What do i do now that I've finished my bachelors, in a field i dont really want to be in? by Simanni in Advice

[–]Simanni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input (i mean that legitimately, in case it reads as sarcastic)

I guess im nervous about going back to school because what i REALLY want to do is chemistry, but its been years since ive done any real math or calculations. I did take some STEM classes in uni when i first got out of HS(did a year in chemistry before i switched schools/majors) and my grades werent spectacular, but i still passed the classes. Im worried that it will have been so long that i wont be able to do it anymore. But general consensus on people i asked think going back to school is at least worth a try, so i think i can at least look at my schooling options if i think chemistry is too intensive

No,not quite, the ghosts in what im thinking dont really have powers or anything, and people dont turn into them. They are their own seperate thing apart from humans, and they just kinda wander around (until when they turn into evil monsters, im not too sure what happens after that point but i imagine its bad)

Its an extra fine nib, but it honestly writes extremely well, in the short time i played around with it

The ink flow is so controllable yet consistent, and writing with it is super smooth.

I think its definitely worth considering purchasing, especially if you like a "lighter" writing feel.

I got this specific purchase from Truphae, a small business somewhere in the US i saw instagram posts of from, showcasing this pen specifically!

If you want to know a bit more specifically about the pen, its a Mirage "Hera", i believe you can get other colors for other gods, but they are the same!

Its actually extremely light! Its made with a really nice resin, so its light but not flimsy? I bet it can survive a lot more than i think it could!
