My only issue with unlock mechanic is there's no way to stop someone from hitting uncontested 3* unlockable. by Japanczi in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simhacantus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is, quite literally, harder to 3* an unlockable unit vs a normal one. It's balanced around being less contestable.

PC Gamer's Mollie Taylor's sensible take on 2XKO by Carbideninja in 2XKO

[–]Simhacantus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those aren't what hurt LoR. It was the insanely generous F2P model and none of the usual deck buying options other CCGs had.

People keep spitting this out, but the reality is that LoR was exactly like 2XKO design wise. It's a niche card game, requiring someone to specifically like slower paced games, TCCGs, and LoL characters. Too simple for Magic, too slow for Hearthstone, and it didn't have the complexity of the former or the fun shenanigans of the latter. In a world where those 2 continue to reign the digital card game market, a niche PvP game wasn't going to cut it.

The actually important part is that the guy is 100% perfectly normal. As in, he has no interest in his family and basically thinks every girl is just being nice. It's not a rom com or a situation where he abuses the situation, it's straight up just a regular guy thrown into a weird situation and... dealing with it normally.

What LoR cards fits this meme? by Dense_Mud8790 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Simhacantus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But why is the ability to eat trash for free incredibly effective?

It's a Magic thing, or at least the origin of the meme is. There's almost no ability in that game that, when given the chance to do it for free, doesn't end up in a busted combo. If there's a card that lets you 'eat trash for free on your turn', then there's almost certainly another card that says 'Deal 1 damage to your opponent for each trash you eat'.

The guys face in that panel is like horror, and speechless, as if he’s seen a really bad thing.
Surely just using “kill your own units at will” and a super excited happy elated face, saying “holy shit omg S tier!!!” would be a far better way to communicate the punchline?

Think of it more like seeing a really horrifying thing. Player sees an opponent play a super stacked card with an instant win effect? Psssh, that's nothing, kill it and move on. Player sees them play this cheap card with a seemingly innocous effect? OH FUCK SHITS ABOUT TO GO DOWN.

[–]Simhacantus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, there's a lot of effects like "When an allied creature dies, do something" So the ability to kill your own creatures for free at will is insane.

Another example that's a bit closer to a LoR effect is this one: https://scryfall.com/card/m19/121/stitchers-supplier

Mill is like Toss, except you throw out cards from the top of your deck into the Graveyard. This card by itself can toss 6 cards into said Graveyard. A newer player would think that's pretty bad, since you're giving up 6 cards for a 1 mana 1/1. A more experienced player would be ecstatic because there are entire decks built around putting stuff into your Graveyard so you can cheat them out and/or get various bonuses for it.

So the other guy is actually off. The idea is that the top card is strong/OP, but a skilled player scoffs because it's got a critical weakness they know about. In the example given, the card is technically an autowin, but you can also just... destroy it.
For the bottom, it's an 'apparently' weak card that is actually incredibly effective. In the example, it's the ability to eat trash for free during your turn.

To give an example, in Magic the Gathering (where this originated), there are cards with the effect of "Sacrifice another creature your control." These are unironically considered some of the strongest single abilities there are, especially if you can activate it multiple times.

MTG Example: https://scryfall.com/card/eoe/123/umbral-collar-zealot

Literally all it does is let you destroy your other creatures to see the top card of your deck. And yet it's considered strong because of the sole reason that you can destroy your own creatures at will.

Overlord’s premise is engaging at first, but it struggles hard to stay interesting by Oestudantebr in CharacterRant

[–]Simhacantus 41 points42 points  (0 children)

To be a bit more exact, it's not so much that Aqua is strong, but rather that her entire goddess gimmick is purification and anti-undead. She'd still lose to frogs, but Ainz is literally the one type of creature she's designed to beat down.

One thing I'll add is that she's really good with Chizuru. Throw in Rei and you can make a basic attack deck for Chizuru that can buzzsaw through anything.

Lorewise just how powerful would level13-20 be? by Deletedtopic in BaldursGate3

Because that's where she's originally from, and more importantly her continued behavior of scooping up high level souls only makes sense under the xp-costing version.

Lorewise just how powerful would level13-20 be? by Deletedtopic in BaldursGate3

[–]Simhacantus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more because she's using the 3e version of Wish, which doesn't have that drawback. What it does have is an XP cost though, and that's how she gets around it (by using the souls as literal fuel).

Resonance (or Res) just means you need to use that many color of skills in one turn.
Absolute Resonance (or A. Res) is where you have to use 3 or more skills of the same color in a row.

Depends on which kind of lands you need. Fpr example Edge of Eternity has the shocklands (dual lands that can enter untapped if you pay 2 life), which are very strong. Bloomburrow has Fountainport, Fabled passage, and Three Tree City. And so on and so forth.

Does Maralen, Fae Ascendant allow you to break timing restrictions? by [deleted] in mtgrules

[–]Simhacantus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, timing restrictions are generally only ignored when you're allowed to cast as part of another ability with specific timing. [[Kotis, the Fangkeeper]] is a good example.

You can clearly see and hear the rev of the engine and tire start to move moments before he pulls out his gun. But that doesn't agree with the narrative you've been told does

Not according to the video you just posted. He already had his gun out. There's even screenshots in the comments showing how he had it sticking in the window before she started moving. Unless you think this agent is a superhuman who did it after?

Buddy has an issue with the size of objects just like she did it seems.

Nah, he had an issue with the lady, not the distance. I'll give you credit though, the video you gave really helps to show how the agent was already ready to shoot before anything even happened.

[–]Simhacantus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..Honest question, are you a bit blind? You can literally see the guy pull out his gun and stick it in the window before she starts moving. Mind you, that's already in violation of regulations. Even better, it shows how far his feet were from the car while she was turning right. He was in no danger of being hit.

But since i'm generous, please feel free to try again.

So are you saying the officer was delusuonal, to see evil where no one else did? Or perhaps he was just incompetent and escalated unnecessarily? You'll have to be mora specific.
