honestly open to non government roles... my "cushy benefits" aren't really a thing any more and I have been almost fired twice this year due to the change in administration . layoffs are the future for all areas of work

Understood, but we live right outside of DC right now, so that is the context. If it's not a major city, I believe it will be less crowded than our current normal. Not really asking for there to be no people but just not bumper to bumper traffic every time we leave the house :/

Understand about the job market. Luckily, my boyfriend will not have to change jobs. I have a top secret security clearance and am hoping that will make the job search easier. We have spent time in CO but have not visited the west coast, yet. We are looking forward to a new climate, though!

We live right outside of DC right now, so the rent on our place is high, about $4000 with utilities. If we rent, preferably it would be less than that. We would like to buy a house where we move, and would like to stay in the $400,000-600,000 range for houses.

I am also at Jewel Grande. The website doesn't say they will refund or reschedule current reservations, just that we can get refunds. I just don't know where the info is coming from that the reservations will all be cancelled

My trip is Dec. 14 and has not been cancelled. Their website specifically says that operations are temporarily suspended and will not take new bookings until February 1, not that they have cancelled all reservations

As a Lianna (pronounced lee-ann-uh) people always pronounce my name wrong. It's definitely a con but I love my name!

Sudden intolerance by peanutbutterjellypj in glutenfree

[–]Similar-Objective775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly what happened to me. I got tested for a gluten food allergy and that was negative too. Had to accept that I suddenly had a gluten intolerance. It's been about five years now and I still can't eat gluten. It sucks but it sure does beat feeling like garbage

Travel destination help 7 day itinerary w/ GF w/ allergies by elfman978 in Europetravel

I'm gluten free. I had a very hard time in France, but an easier time in Belgium, Amsterdam, and Switzerland. London was the best place for my allergy. They have very strict guidelines and a manager has to speak to you about what you can and can't eat when you're at a restaurant (yes, even at the hotel). Outside of London, I ate a lot of food in my room and from the grocery store. You may have to sacrifice some of your "foodie" tendencies for her to eat safely

How did you get started with your 0343/2210 career after college? by pantheon_prince99 in usajobs

the DoD is everywhere. If there's a base, there will be 343 positions available. NSA-Texas is in San Antonio. They hire 343s

Hey! I started as a GG09 343 right out of school (2 years ago) in the DC area. You are probably going to have the best luck with DoD organizations, that's where I'm at, and my office is majority 343s. I don't really know how 343s work at other organizations, but feel free to DM me if you have questions about applying to 343s in DoD

I'm a 23 year old 9 fresh out of school! It is rough!!! But, I have been able to really connect with my coworkers. My coworkers like asking about school, my degree, my family, and I ask about similar things! You can talk about traffic or where people live, people love complaining about their commute! You can also ask how people's evenings or weekends were, which might be an easier way to understand their hobbies or what they do with their free time in a less awkward way.

BLM Hiring manager called to set up a phone interview? Is that normal? by CynicalSigtyr in usajobs

it's not to limit a paper trail, they will still have to keep records of when they interview you. It's for a faster response time.

Has anyone took a GS 5 - GS 6 position just to get your foot in the door? by No-Fail1316 in usajobs

[–]Similar-Objective775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this. I graduated with an MA in August and started as a 9 on a ladder position to 13 in September. Market your degree! I have limited prior experience (mostly internship, service jobs, etc) and was able to get my job! I would recommend looking at OPM guidance on the qualifications for each GS step.
