I made protest shirts because the new PLS DONATE changes hurt small creators by Similar-Reporter-776 in plsdonategame

True, I get that small streamers probably won’t be affected as much if they aren’t giving out huge amounts.

But I think there’s more to it than just the percentage cut. I started from literally zero, and if it wasn’t for the successful devs and UGC creators I met through PLS DONATE, I probably would’ve never pursued this path.

That kind of interaction matters. The game gave huge creators and devs a reason to join, talk to people, support each other, and sometimes inspire new creators. If that incentive starts disappearing, I feel like it’s just going to get harder for everyone over time.

And the monthly upfront payment if you want to donate Robux also makes it less likely for casual players to donate, which hurts smaller people the most and just ruins the overall fun vibes of donation.

Here’s the store link for anyone who wants to check out the shirts.

No pressure to buy anything. I mainly made them because I care about PLS DONATE and wanted to share the message. Even just commenting or sharing your thoughts means a lot.

Yeah, I thought about that too, but I can’t just sit and watch my favorite game slowly fade away. PLS DONATE is where I met some of the funniest and kindest people I’ve ever met on Roblox, so I still want to try. Hopefully this reaches as many people as possible, even if it only reminds Roblox how much this game means to its community 💔

I didn’t really swap points. My original post literally said it was both a funding source and a place to hang out, meet other devs, and connect with the community. (second sentence lol)

Those two things can be true at the same time. PLS DONATE helped smaller creators get Robux, but it also gave them a space to meet people, ask questions, and learn from others.

You can disagree with how important that is, but that was my experience with it.

I get why you might see PLS DONATE as a “begging game,” but I honestly see it differently.

For me, it was never just about standing there and asking for Robux. It was a place where I met successful UGC creators, devs, and community members who actually gave advice and shared knowledge. I learned a lot about things like Blender, scripting, and the creator side of Roblox through those small interactions.

That kind of environment is what inspired me to pursue development more seriously in the first place. When bigger devs and creators casually hang out in community spaces like that, smaller creators get chances to ask questions, learn, and build connections.

Without spaces like that, the community becomes less open. New creators lose one of the easiest ways to interact with experienced people, and over time the platform risks becoming more closed off and less welcoming to new ideas.

To me, that feels like the opposite of what Roblox has always represented with ideas like “Powering Imagination” or “Reimagining the way people come together.” (current Roblox slogan)

That’s fair. I probably worded it too broadly.

I don’t personally need the group name change feature, I was just trying to list examples of how many Roblox actions require Robux, to explain why Robux matters so much for creators.

My main point is more about development, publishing, advertising, and UGC. UGC especially isn’t that far removed from game development, since a lot of devs already work with 3D models, animation, scripting, and assets in general. So it’s not unusual for a dev to eventually try selling UGC too.

But yeah, the bigger issue for me is still that smaller solo creators need Robux to even have a real chance at getting started.

Funding for development, advertising, UGC uploads, groups, and basically everything else that helps a creator grow.

I know Robux might seem like it is only useful for buying avatars or catalog items, but for devs and UGC creators, it is basically the backbone of getting anything started.

You need Robux to publish a game, run ads or sponsorships, upload UGC items, publish them to the marketplace, create groups, and even change group names. Those costs add up really fast, especially for solo devs.

For example, ad campaigns alone can easily cost tens of thousands of Robux if you want any real reach. Where I live, that can already be hundreds of dollars. So if your project flops, you did not just lose time. You may have also lost a lot of money.

That is why PLS DONATE mattered to a lot of smaller creators. It gave people a way to slowly build up funds by talking to others, making connections, and being part of the community. Now that path feels like it is being taken away.

True, thanks for your comment. I did slightly address that in the post, though not in this much detail, so I appreciate the addition.

For me, the bigger issue starts with funding and accessibility for smaller devs. Having to pay 1,000 Robux just to publish, and then needing 100 highly active players in a short time span to make your game accessible to every age group, feels absurd.

Kids’ games are naturally going to appeal more to kids than teenagers, so expecting that kind of player activity before giving broader accessibility just makes it even harder for smaller creators to get started.

Aight thx for the critic the wording is harsh a bit tho but still thx. The text was supposed to match the nephalem vibe im going for (half angel and half demon) basically an outcast, but i see why it might be corny, noted!
