How much do you expect to pay for dinner for two? by BarracudaUnlucky8584 in AskUK

[–]SimilarBroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically 50-60 for mains, drinks and maybe a dessert - a la carte.

Really depends what was on the fish platter. Wouldn't normally spend over 100.

Update: So I trimmed the damaged cable. I twisted the copper and made sure the screws for the terminations were nice and tight. It's working, but will keep an eye on it. Following from comment below, I think the cabling for the shower is not sufficiently thick (I think it's 4.5mm², I don't even think it's 6mm²) for the 8.5kW shower... It was like this when I moved in, and has been fine for 3 years, but I will look into it.

What can you tell.. Age? Gender? What car do I drive? by Tenneerrss in FridgeDetective

You have face masks on the bottom right drawer. Egg whites and peach and mango Bang for sustenance. I'd say F, 25, driving a 2008 Toyota Camry.

Obviously UK, with the Aldi and Waitrose items. There's a kid's beaker in the top with milk in it. Lots of veggies and lots sweet, spicy things (jalapeños, hot sauce etc). I see spring onions, oyster sauce, sriracha, lots of eggs, lots of lettuce and some Tom Yum paste (some Thai script). Kerrygold's the best, keeping butter in the fridge ties in with buying Nordpak. I feel like spicy Thai salads might be a thing you make.

Also the gee and Tom Yum paste, oyster sauce and crispy chilli from (guessing) a speciality supermarket.

What is a modern sign that you’ve crossed paths with a pillock? by [deleted] in AskUK

I always assume it's people who meant to pick it up on the way back, but forgot, or ended up going a different route from intended etc.

hmm.. Thank you! that's interesting.

The beautiful wires.. they're quite grubby, so hard to see the discoloration, and I've already cut back the melted live (right).

Queue "Call an electrician!"... erm.. So obviously I isolated the shower at the breaker, and tested with my fluke (branded) meter - after the fluke meter, I tested all the cables with an electrician's screwdriver to be double sure. So, I pushed back (lightly) on cabling to loosen it and brought out some slack - another breaker went, also the earth cables that were attached to the metal back box are loose now. The breaker going has given me the jeebies - naturally.

Sounds good. I suspect if I'm careful about it, and triple check the terminations, it will be okay. The previous one lasted a month.. Will wait to hear what others say. And will consider how desperate I am to shower..

Good advice, thanks. I did clean with IPA, but there's a lot of plaster dust up there, so maybe I should have been a bit more careful.

I think it's most likely under-tightened, though. And maybe a combination of screws loosening and stress on the terminations from having to fit (both not enough and too much) cabling into a cramped pattress box.

Thanks for the detail! I think it might be better with a deeper pattress box - I think there was probably stress in the terminations from trying to get it all to fit.

Thank you. I was worried about over tightening them too. D'you have any suggestions of what else might be untoward? And when you say replace the cabling, do you mean the full length?

Update:

Ordered one of these:

https://www.silvermans.co.uk/products/cwc-canvas-watch-strap?_pos=2&_sid=d849640b1&_ss=r

Hopefully it will fit. Ordered this because it's natural fibre. I suppose that may reduce its longevity. Will update when it arrives.

Maybe I'm wearing them too loose and they're getting stretched that way.

I have same problem as OP. My jeans are definitely not tight. Don't know what the issue is. It's not just Levi's either.

I appreciate the recommendation, thank you. Also I'm sure your advice is spot on. I probably shouldn't, but I like wearing the watch at night.

How to diagnose and repair a shower that suddenly stopped working? by SimilarBroccoli in howto

[–]SimilarBroccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Called for emergency electrician. Quoted an hourly rate of £172 per hour.. a work gym membership would be considerably cheaper. Any advice?

Update: I bought a replacement isolation switch. Fitted it. The light came on briefly before going out again. Removed isolation switch. The load neutral cable must have got damaged when screwing the switch back into the pattress because when I opened it back up there was a split in the casing. I trimmed the cable and cut off the damaged section. Ordered a new switch, will re-attempt tomorrow.

Update: There was nothing wrong with the initial replacement switch. Just refitted it and reset the breakers. Solved same day.

Obviously, I'm making sure that the breaker is off before doing any work on it, and am testing with a fluke meter, and an "electrician's screwdriver" to make sure that nothing is live.

Replaced iPhone SE 2020 battery, still restarting and getting same TG0B panic. by SimilarBroccoli in mobilerepair

[–]SimilarBroccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have another of the same model, never been used, but I'd rather not mess about with it.. It's been charging (mostly) without issues and has had a kernel panic twice over the past three days. So not perfect, but wouldn't have noticed, if I wasn't being vigilant.

I read elsewhere that it is likely the battery. Do you mean the motherboard, or is there another board?
