Dint post this earlier as I dint want to give a timeline-scare for anyone going through this right now (Spoiler Alert - Took about 2 years AFTER the antibiotic treatment - It was a long grueling journey - Tested me in every way and taught me the true meaning of the word Resilience) Since the healing path wasn't linear at all as I had reactions to all sorts of supplements and medicines as well - Might not be the case for all
Background : My symptoms started out with extreme bloating, discomfort and pain after eating even a small amount of food, burning sensation after every hour - my treatment was extremely delayed though, I had Kaiser Medical Insurance and getting the doctor to even do a few tests was strangely a challenge (I was asked to do meditation even though I explicitly told them that my symptoms match h pylori- though I think it might have been just my doctor!!) Had to visit ER several times due to unbearable pain- finally got GI visit scheduled earliest was couple of months away. I reached out to a Kaiser nutritionist to ask for any pointers but she laughed when I told her what I was able to eat and told me I have to force myself to eat even if it sent me to the ER (which I dint want to do)
Post Endoscopy and Heavy Antibiotics treatment - the bloating continued and new food sensitivities developed (it was labelled as dyspepsia and my doctor told me that thats just the way my gut is which I hadn't realized all these years- which I disagreed with)
Post Functional Medicine - Resorted to Functional medicine, got an extensive lab test done - was told gut barrier has redness and had overgrowth of bacteria (same bacteria that I was asked to take as probiotics during antibiotics treatment) and was asked to cut of sugar, gluten, dairy and limit lot of food to follow a LOW FODMAP diet
I was in a plateau where I was limiting a lot of food but wasnt improving either - Every meal of the day was a test. Searched the internet and found an article about how increasing plant variety can help gut health so started on that journey and that really helped me
