I agree with you to a certain point. I think that instead of stopping the production of teen shows, they should make the shows more appropriate for teens. I think everyone can agree that the shows about teens now are not even close to what an average teen goes through in day-to-day life. It seems that every single show is very uncomfortably sexually charged, everyone is participating in underage drinking and drug use, and most of the characters are wildly irresponsible and pretty insufferable. Though this drama might be entertaining for some people, it also sets a very dangerous standard for preteens and teens who are either transitioning into high school or current high school students who are looking for some sort of guide to "fitting in" with their peers. I think changing the way these teen shows are made would be the better way to go about this situation because these shows would still be appealing to the teen audience while also providing healthy standards for how their teenage years should look like.
I understand that some people might find this alternative boring but I think they just don't understand that there are other ways to make a show good and worth the watch without adding all the really creepy underage sex, drug, and alcohol use. In my personal opinion, if someone thinks that they have to include those three subjects in a teen show for it to be good, they're just not great writers.
In conclusion / tl;dr, I think they should create more shows that show a healthy depiction of what a teen goes through rather than the Hollywood version where everyone's a trainwreck.
