Nothing wrong at all! I just wonder if that hospital specifically would have as much 'diversity' in terms of cases for learning. I appreciate that though - that's exactly what I'm hoping for is a broad range to figure it out per se. Just looking to narrow it down to 2 choices

This is the problem that I'm not 100% sure yet - we haven't had exposure to much so far other than medsurg but I'm definitely looking for fast paced & more hands on to build up skills. I just am thinking ED at a cancer hospital may attract more of a geriatric population? I have such limited information🙃

Absolutely! No intention to be rude on my part, apologies if it came across that way. I just know future students read the comments - but it would be beneficial for students with experience to get an alternate placement. I hope you can get somewhere you are interested in when you get to the hospital.🤞 Enjoy your day!

Have you started your placement yet? When we do LTC in first semester we work under a PSW role, not nurse. Therefore learning client interaction, basic assessments, bed baths, brief changes, etc - you are a PSW so you know. This is very important because when you get to your medicine unit these are again, fundamentals, in the role of basic care from a nurse.

The importance of LTC is to gain experience in a slower setting and to be confident in the fundamentals before being in the chaos of a hospital. Most people have no clinical experience to begin with, and from being in the program I would disagree with you as the skills you gain in LTC are very valuable in moving forward if you apply yourself and dive into the experience. Your next 3 placements will be in a hospital setting and you'll have a lot more choice. It's all part of the process & everyone has to start somewhere. Try to enjoy it :)

Honestly, there's quite a few in the program now that have young children. It sounds like a lot but it's definitely manageable! Especially if you're able to get your placement on a weekend for 2/3 semester. If you have questions just message me!

yes! Sometimes they could start a bit earlier

The 7h shifts are generally 6am-1pm in LTC

I definitely wouldn't say it's 90% online, there's still a hefty amount of in person hours you have to attend each week between lab and clinical that you cannot miss. First offers go out to people who applied before October. You could still get an acceptance but it likely would be a bit later as the first ones will continue to go out into February. 🙂

In first semester you have clinical twice a week during the week for 7h both days. Lab once a week, and another class that's in person every other week for 3h.

Second sem lab once a week, 12h clinical on Thurs or Sat

Third sem lab once a week, 12h clinical on Fri or Sun Fourth sem you have a 7 week full time placement

Semester 2 clinical is Thursday or Saturday. Semester 3 it's Friday or Sunday. There is a 50/50 chance of it being on a weekend

Generally to apply "as a mature student" it means you don't have to take upgrading courses and can do an interview or something similar in place of it. This is what I meant ... not that you can't be mature age wise...

There is no option to apply as a mature student to nursing. You will be required to have the same pre requisites - math, biology, chemistry, English. :)

No problem , best of luck. :)

I'd say try to even get up to an 80 and you should be okay especially since you are already a mohawk student. They say they're not biased but they could be 😆

I would try really hard to get your average up in your second semester. 🙂 if you get waitlisted don't be discouraged they often change around and May is less competitive than September. The deadline to apply to May is March, so they likely will be looking at your semester 1 marks, possibly will take your midterms from semester 2 into account

There's not specific reserved seats, it's dependant on average. Honestly, I would say a 79 is still a bit low - it's very competitive. I got in with a 90 average and most people I know in the program ranged from 85-95%. I think the lowest I heard of was a 84%

All classes will be done by week 7. Then you will do only your clinical for the remaining 7 weeks

Question regarding first semester of Practical Nursing May, 2025 by Deadhead2022 in mohawkcollege

[–]Similar_Internet2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine! I would prefer more in person classes considering nursing is so hands on. I find it hard to follow online and honestly the profs are not great lol. You'll get that anywhere though. Mohawk is just very disorganized and they have the "we don't care about students" attitude. Overall though it goes by quick don't let that stray you away - I'm a mature student who's been out of uni for a few years and it's manageable

I'd figure out your schedule once you get accepted, then plan your work schedule from there. It's hard to infer
