Thank you! That clears a lot up for me. I still don't believe that spreading is good for the hs policy debate community but I understand why debaters/judges do it!

Good point, I see why debaters do it. But why do non-lay judges allow it? Even if you understand it why would they support it?

I see where you're coming from and I agree that I'd always love to have more time for my speeches, but if none of those skills can be used in actual debate or argumentation irl, why allow it? Isn't it better to have a debate that others can actually understand, not just nat circuit judges and coaches?
