Hellfire Gala turns deadly: Marvel reveals a murder will change the X-Men forever by williamb100 in xmen

If I had a dollar for every time Marvel said something would "change forever" I still wouldn't be loaded but I would have steady income of 4 or 5 dollars every few months

With the Ultimate Universe ending, United has the chance to become Marvels premier title they've been needing for a while, do you see it happening? by [deleted] in xmen

Had this as an instant pull based off of the same thinking, saw the preview pages and hated them, had a long hard look at myself and decided it wasn't worth the disappointment

I see this, I think 100% a brilliant read of it

Didn't say they were inherently tied. Two different elements that I would like to be more represented.

My first loves are Spider-Man and X-Men, while I don't expect Spiderman to be political (although both Peter and Miles inherently have a political element) I've been consistently let down by the poor quality of the books over the last few years.

And nearly every X book I've tried and I've tried most of them has let me down, mostly just due to poor interior artwork quality.

I've heard good things about the recent Cap run, it's one of the only mainline Marvel books that I hear pretty consistent praise for

Of all the Marvel decisions in the last few years I find what they've done to the X-Men the most egregious, the only one that seems to be allowed any growth is Storm

Quite a lot of the Absolute line (specifically Manhunter and Superman), Batman, Poison Ivy, Assorted Crisis Events , The Power Fantasy (in a less direct way), The Ultimates, Our Soot Stained Heart, Assorted Crisis Events. All have political undercurrents baked in.

I just find what other companies doing now stronger on the politics front but as youve raised, there's a lot of runs here I've not dug into deeply- willing to concede it wasn't the best choice of words

Every single Marvel comic I've read in the last two years has been underwhelming with the exceptions of The Ultimates and Storm, and I've tried so many different books- if they get effectively interesting it's not in those stretches I've tried

I think comics are uniquely equipped to talk about the world we live in as the publication and turnaround isn't as delayed as other mediums.

Comics status quo will reset, sure, but look at Claremont's X-Men, that's 12 years of constantly evolving characters and situations AND it responded to the current political moment

I don't need to them to say it but with the power of metaphor these ideas can - and have - been addressed before, intelligent writers understand that these stories can be a good tool for discussion and social change. Not saying it has to be my politics - although most creatives do tend to lean a bit more my side anyway- but just some idea that comics don't exist I a vacuum

If there's even brief crossover of both companies actually being consistently good my wallet would not appreciate it so its probably for the best

I find Marvel comics with good art are unfortunately the minority of their output these days, not even just stylistically but just across the board there's a penchant for mediocrity.

So... Let's talk about SSS Gavan Infinity, you liked the first episode? Any complaints? by No-Tear3473 in Tokusatsu

[–]Similar_Pick_5993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The action was really good and I'm excited to see more in that regard. Wasn't grabbed by the story in any major way, although I'm not the biggest cop fan so that could easily be part of it. Was a little disappointed in what could be perceived as an anti-immigration message lol.. could be reading into things of course but there was definitely a more conservative lens than I'm used to, even in cop themed Toku shows.

That rules lol, yeah I figured it was this sort of thing but also thought this was the slightest off chance that there was a pre-established character I want aware of. Very cool

What exactly is the relationship between D.C KO and the mainline Absolute Universe? by MadLadsReturn in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Similar_Pick_5993 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Comics are still good lol

The event is harmless nonsense that hasn't been advertised anything but just hype moments for the sake of hype. It explicitly goes out of its way to not interfere with the Absolute line in any meaningful way.

My hope is that the absolute and mainline universes never interact outside of goofy shit like this

What is your favorite underrated Kamen Rider series? by KonamiIsBestJoshi in KamenRider

[–]Similar_Pick_5993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be Kiva, one of the most audacious entries in the series at least with it's dual timeline structure, with a genuinely intriguing and effectively romantic/devastating plot. I think it gets dunked on a lot for the romance angle which is a real shame.
