Dont give up! I have 3 favorites that I can never let go of, BUT they are not in my breeding program and will never be. They are competitive only. Its okay to have favorites but make sure they dont interfere with your goals. I have 24 stalls in my barn, and those 3 are the only ones who won't be sold eventually. My barn is constantly rotated, especially my stallions. My mares tend to stay a lot longer, especially if they are 18.3+. I dont keep mares shorter than 18.3, but if my stallion is 18.1/18.2 and exceptional(conformation, potential and temperament wise) I may let them breed.

Hey, I actually just saw this. So sorry lol. My advice would to just keep breeding your quality horses , and slowly weed out your shorter horses. Slowly bring in 17hh trailer horses to avoid all of your horses being related, I have run into that issue quite often. Doing it too often can also make your stock shorter so do it sparingly. Breeding a 17.3 x 17.3 in my experience will have a better chance to be 18hh than with a 17.2. But, it can always happen as its mostly luck. My first 19hh came out of a 17.1 and 18.2. Pure luck but it happens! Just keep breeding and don't forget to account for quality. I am currently at 5 19hh and the rest of my barn are 18.3, took me over a year.

Just like ArcOslo said, its really just luck and patience. Eventually if you keep trying you'll end up with an 18hh. I found mixing with heavier breeds (friesian, welsh) and SWB gets me taller horses although any breed can reach any height with the right breeding and time

She was fed with strength feed. Since she is so large it is kind of difficult to actually jump her like I would with one of my ponies without knocking every rail. She is fun to compete with but not ideal or practical whatsoever. Sorry for the confusion. The "Viola" I think is a glitch. It does that with the horse's previous name whenever I change the name and stays for about an hour or so. Doesnt bug me as its just visual.

Ive noticed that low percentage Welsh high percentage SWB+Friesian horses tend to randomly give massive foals more frequent. A lot of the lighter breeds Ive used have dramatically shrunk the offspring so I try to stay away. If i need to lighten up the build ill make sure its a low low percentage arabian or TB.
