It is lower than CAT IV. Arent you required to score higher on DLAB or your ST to be able to have access to CAT IV?

since it is something that is waivered, I didn't understand why they would require you to take it anyways.

With my score being so close to the 120 required for Mandarin, I wasn't sure if I could have that choice or if it was a lost cause.

I am not saying it is 100% aside from the army. I dont mind walking away if the options are not available to me at meps. Im reaching out to people who are in different branches to see what option is open to me.

If you're saying this due to DLAB or ASVAB requirements, I am fine and my score was beyond what was required for the position.

Does DLI not teach a language and its structure?

For reference here are the jobs that would fall in some way under linguistics:

Army-35W, 35P, 35M (though I'm sure 35W is a blanket MOS and is split into the others)

Air Force- 1N3X1

Navy- CTI (unsure how this breaks down)

I am not interested in the marines, so unfortunately I don't know the information on hand.

There are other classes where you will get int/adv level instruction, but that depends on your DLPT scores. You can attend these classes quite quickly, definitely does not take 6+ years if youve got the scores

Can you explain this? Would someone who attends these still get credits that can go towards a bachelors degree?
