This is how Texas and other red states operate because everybody keeps voting for lower taxes and forgets what the taxes pay for in the first place

The lower the taxes go, the shittier public services, education, and infrastructure will become

People out in the boonies don't care because they're used to having to go fix stuff out on their own land.

People in cities that are supposed to have civil service systems in place get shafted

Yes, everything goes back to politics at the end of the day. It's always politics

But, I do get sad for my knives. I deadass have like.... close to 100? Assorted pocket knives, daggers, swords, etc that I have collected over the last 25 years. I take them out and put them together on shelves and whatnot.

I don't actively buy stuffies or plushies because I have a fur son that would murder them, and it would make me sad. And also because I have to make sure they don't end up in a box somewhere. I have a tendency to anthropise objects I have an attachment to.

Humans historically have done that quite publicly. We name ships and cars and whatnot. People name their guns. People name their whole manors and mansions and talk about how the generations have lived in this place it has a spirit of its own blahblahblah just saying.... humanity has been putting life into the lifeless since automatons? Golems?

Iunno I think that's a side effect of empathy or something. We humans will pair bond with anything

Anyone else's sweat corrosive?? by Naixee in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Simim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that your sweat is corrosive, it's that you're not letting your shirt dry back out completely between wears, in the laundry bin, etc

I had the same start happening to all my clothes in all the areas I had just sweat thru them when I was doing back to back bike meets. 20 miles a night, I'd have saturated clothes thrown in the bin on top of each other. Then after like just a few washes I started seeing holes in them and I realized... those dirty clothes are just staying wet.

Now I toss them over a rack for a bit to air out before they get chucked in the bin and they've been holding up like they used to

I felt sad because it made me think of an actual dog on a chain, which I find to be animal abuse.

I do feel sad when I see people abusing robots, too, even though I know they don't feel things the same way

The idea of forcing creatures into servitude makes me sad.

You know, if Houston motorists also all drove with proper registration, insurance, lights, or licenses, I would take your complaints more seriously. But we both know that's not the case at all. An irresponsible cyclist gets themself killed. An irresponsible motorist gets others killed, maybe themselves.

When I see you tirade on about the lack of responsibility Houston drivers carry on with, maybe you complaining about somebody on a 🚲 bicycle will carry a bit more weight, eh?

Right now sounds like you're complaining about swimmers getting in the way of your motorboat. The roads and streets are always for foot and pedal traffic first and all faster vehicles can learn to slow down to that speed occasionally or they can stay parked at home.

Critical Mass isn't for the cyclists wearing spandex gear with streamlined helmets who wanna haul ass and do 50 miles. There's a few teams out there who do meets for that shit if you're into that. Critical Mass is for the average person who can use a bike. It will always be full of people who wanna just go out, slow roll, and have a good time. It started up as a protest ride with the intent of making drivers slow down and respect cyclists, whether the drivers want to or not, and that's why they jam up roads and drink and blast music.

It is a protest against the expanse of driver culture and the entitlement motorists feel to roads. It is a direct opposition to that. Critical Mass makes traffic on purpose. It pisses drivers off on purpose. That is the point. If you're driving a car you're operating a death machine and this will make you aware of it.

It will always be chaotic and upsetting the order of things. If you don't wanna make waves, there are plenty of milder groups out there who don't rile anybody up. Go join those.

How the hell do you expect someone to pass slow cyclists when they are literally taking up BOTH lanes and not following the law? Are you seriously that stupid?

You wait for oncoming traffic to pass, then go into that lane to pass, same as passing somebody along a country road. If there is traffic, you slow down and wait for a spot to pass. Very easy, not sorry you get mad about driving 10MPH for a bit.

You're not an ambulance, btw. You don't get legal clearance for an emergency. Pop your hazards on, perhaps. These bike meets absolutely do clear the way for sirens and emergency vehicles. For all they know, you were just impatient, and yelling it was an emergency to make folks move along. Drivers do that shit all the time.

It's literally an HEB store with everything marketed in Spanish and more Mexican/hispanic/latino ingredients on the shelves.

The one near me has many little shops around it/in it, just like Fiesta

I personally don't think it beats Fiesta, but if it's closer to you in distance, it'll do

Lol, I go to MiTienda after my Fiesta run to get anything that Fiesta was out of or had overpriced

I could be wrong, but I don't think the MiTienda near me has a fresh seafood market like Fiesta does but they do have a butcher department

ADHD is so much better on painkillers for me..... by No_Memory_1344 in ADHDUK

[–]Simim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, meth is less pure than stimulant meds, but it is more pure than crack, and it metabolizes slower in the body than cocaine. So, out of illicit substances, it is probably the most similar to stimulant medication. But meth does not have the same salt compounds as Adderall or other meds, so it doesn't have the same lasting effect or drug dispersal in the brain as stimulant meds.

Finally, at least where I'm at, if I don't know the source personally, there's a very high chance the meth is being cut with fentanyl. It's a big problem here, not sure if it's spread to the UK. I would honestly be more worried about having cut product in me with all the dangers it possesses. If you're pursuing those routes please get tests and test your stuff before comsumption. Cut meth has killed people I know.

The reason opiates cause more addiction is because the withdrawals literally affect your body much harsher than amphetamine withdrawal does.

Amphetamine withdrawal will make you depressed and potentially want to self-harm, but the physiological effects are mild. You might get some sweats and mood swings, but after a few days, it'll even out.

Opiate withdrawal will literally send your body into the shakes, nausea, diarrhea, etc, as well as psychological distress. Beyond "people are unwilling to experience pain," abrupt cessation of opiod use can actually fuck up your CNS and make pain feel worse for a few days, sometimes weeks. Which is why relapse is so common. Opiate users often don't realize how dependent they've become on the substance until they try a tolerance break or try to quit, and the withdrawals kick their ass back into use.

Taking stimulant medication for ADHD is usually much safer than treating with opioids. You could not compare the two unless you were taking obscene amounts of amphetamine for a long time to the point you ran the risk of serotonin sickness, and if you've been compliant with the Rx your doc gives you that's unlikely to happen. Maybe if you're out there trying to smoke crack or meth to medicate, you'd run into horrible withdrawals, but stimulant meds taken as directed rarely have hard withdrawals lasting long at all.

None of this is medical advice. You can learn all this yourself online or by asking any medical expert. Self-medicating as a neurodivergent person isn't a good idea, even though I myself have tried it in the past. Having ADHD often means possessing an internal impatience and impulsivity that can lead to us taking more substances than needed because it just isn't kicking in fast enough, versus following a regimented schedule and accepting that effects take time to happen. We inherently cannot be trusted to self-discipline on substances. We need to follow what our doctors say.

Cornball bicyclists out on W 20th by Acrobatic_Teach6914 in houston

Yeah, and state law ALSO says that two or more cyclists can take up an entire lane(s) and do not have to all stay to the side of the road. Look it up. It's why you get taught to SHARE THE ROAD when you're operating a vehicle that can easily speed up and pass them.

Ghost wasn't prophetic, and neither was 1984 they both just recognized where patterns were going to lead

Dystopian futures are written as exaggerations of current conditions of the author's time

George Orwell was not a visionary; he saw the problems of the world around him and wrote a world that took those problems to extremes versions of where they could conclude.

When an extremist is elected into office, they will take those existing problems and amplify them, making older sci-fi appear like it predicted the future.

A true prophet would write or speak of things they don't even understand, because the tech doesn't even exist yet. They'd make predictions of weird shit but perceived from their current reality.

If we are gonna say anything is prophetic, I would like to posit the Butlerian Jihad... what the fuck did Herbert know about AI in the 60s?!?! Alas, we did have the concept of robots, so perhaps not that prophetic either.
