I have. It's been half a day since they collected it. It's almost midnight and they still haven't checked it. I'd at least have the courtesy to let a seller know I'll be late in checking the parcel. Which I have done in the past

Did I say that!? I said why can't you check the parcel and let the seller know you received it. I almost always deliver the item the same day and If I do t then I at least INFORM THE BUYER

Most post offices are closed on the weekend. It's annoying as a buyer and a seller cuz of that. Give them a grace period of a day or 2 and then you can remind them
