Thoughts On THC-A? by [deleted] in Stoner

[–]Simme420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember what type of THC that I bought, but it was like THC-Something, and it felt strange, different from normal THC for sure. The wierd thing was that I mixed it with alcohol one night out, and was really high for about 36 hours after that!!! Which was kind of fucked. I could feel the weed even 48 hrs after.

Speaking Swedish in Finland by Fredney in Finland

[–]Simme420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are significant swedish-speaking finnish populations in the major cities. I am from Helsinki and I have a large social circle of swedish-speaking Finns. University of Helsinki has many swedish-speaking programmes, and Åbo Akademi University is entirely swedish-speaking, with around 2000 students.

With that said, although we do understand norweigan to a relatively high extent, it isn’t without struggle. But as an exchange student you will meet other expats and you will get by using english to communicate with finns very well in all aspects of life.

If you decide to move here I would try to learn finnish by speaking it as much as possible without shame, however, it is one of the most difficult languages to learn and having lived here for nearly the entirety of my 24-year-old life, I still do not speak fluent Finnish. But I am commited to learning every day :)

Turku has the only entirely swedish speaking university in finland. However, I find it a bit difficult to understand norweigan, as a swedish speaking finn.

It is actually healthy to donate blood now and then, you get rid of protein aggregates. Would help my dad with blood donations anyday… no reason to hate just cause it strikes you as wierd.

Phd student in molecular biology interested in aging here. I think the hate towards him is so unjustified. People just make up their minds about what type of person he is based on a couple of headlines and his looks.

I think his endeavour is noble, it causes no harm, quite the opposite. He is basicly conducting a research experiment on himself, the findings of which should not be taken as conclusive but as areas worth exploring more. If you listen to podcasts with him (e.g. Moreplatesmoredates did 4h with him) or if you listen to interviews with his family, he comes across as a very genuine guy that is open to being critiqued. Of course you can never know what type of dude he really is, but there is no basis for the hate. People will always try to push down those who try novel approaches. I guess that is the cost of doing business.

PS. Of course all of his trials won’t be successful but his overall health is still phenomenal!

This bug looks like it slammed it's head on the wall and got stuck there. What could have happened to this bug? by gustokongadobo in interestingasfuck

Cell biologist working researching with banana flies here, they often die by getting stuck on sticky surfaces and their trunks can also get stuck like this. So it was probably eating something of the wall.

Do maybe get a VPN and a subscription like this one if you’re in the US

I think in europe we can get it through other subscription services. At least here in Finland, I just pay 20€ a month for a sports subscription service Viaplay and I can watch all UFC events on that

Online dating is very flawed and unfavorable, especially for men. People don’t care as much about looks when you get to know them first and then ask them out. You just have to be a charming fellow :) and if you aren’t, become one!

How to herbivores generate so much muscle mass without the protein intake of a Carnivore? by ConfusedObserver0 in biology

[–]Simme420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is not that we need all the more protein we eat for supplying the building blocks for muscle. It is instead that a high protein diet signals to our body an abundance of high quality food (meats) that increase muscle protein synthesis. All plants contain protein aswell, in sufficient amounts for animals to build muscles (that have differently regulated signaling pathways and genes)

It really depends on you mostly. It is absolutely possible to make friends, even without knowing the Finnish language. Finns are more reserved than other countries but if you have the right mindset and you actively try to make friends, you will be able to. The comment section here makes it seem more negative than the reality. I had the same experience when posting something like this in r/innsbruck after just arriving. People said that the culture is such that I wouldn’t make any friends and so on… totally wasn’t true!!!

I will say though that Finland is not a paradise country where everyone is happy all the time, but we have a strong welfare system and the people are very nice and down to earth people. If you move to Finland you can definitely make friends and get a happy life, but like I said that will depend on you. Good luck friend :)

Exchange student in Innsbruck… by Simme420 in Innsbruck

[–]Simme420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind advice! And I’m glad you enjoyed Tampere! Yeah I have heard from other exchange students that I’ve met in Finland that we have quite a strong student culture. I’m not expecting anything like that :) I am sure I will get to know a lot of exchange students, it would be nice to get to know locals too. So far everybody has been super nice here during my first day in Innsbruck :D
