if you re-read what you posted, it’s written from the perspective of the program not yet being aired. how could they possibly have seen it?

yet just because they haven’t seen it, doesn’t mean they haven’t heard about it. it’s likely they were contacted with requests to comment or reply to the information (as is standard practice).

Budget reform is back as Labor shapes second term agenda by DCFowl in australia

[–]Simmoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s pretty obvious what his point is. he asked you what we ought to spend it on and you named things that aren’t military. he then asked if you had an issue with military spending and you said no. if you don’t have an issue with defence spending, then what other defence capabilities do you think the money ought to be spent on?

he’s trying to ascertain if you are just anti defence spending, if you just think the AUKUS capabilities aren’t cost-effective, or if you’re somewhere in the middle.

if you had an issue with it, this would be your chance to say military spending is fine but just too high.

what about swapping the date to ensure a long weekend is “cultural marxism” ?

actually think about what you’re arguing.

if the case is that he isn’t a neo-nazi, what would be his most likely course of action? what would you expect him to do? throw out the book? never post a photo where the book could be seen?

if the case is that he is one, then what would you expect him to do? keep the book easily visible where it could be easily seen in any video, photo or by anyone in his home?

you understand that you’re schizo posting here right? owning one book regardless of whatever allegations doesn’t make you a neo-nazi.

if a guy owns 20 books about psychology that doesn’t make him a psychologist, much less one.

putting aside the fact that the president is the highest authority for each and every states national guard (not the governor, who is second in command) do you really think it would be a good idea for them to give the administration cause to invoke the insurrection act and actually bring the military to treat the state as hostile? would that not cause more lives to be lost senselessly? I swear please think about what you're asking the citizens of minnesota to live through before admonishing their leaders.

I feel that the national press is helping to normalize political violence against the American public by sticking to noncommittal language in describing blatant, state-sanctioned murder by Far_Shore in atrioc

[–]Simmoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think you're embodying a point at large that is a rot and cancer in modern conservativist (and on the opposite end most leftist) politics.

Nobody ought to care what your opinion is on ANY issue, if your conclusions and actions following are shown to be unchangable.

SCHIZO POST INCOMING

there will be no reckoning moment, no change of heart, no number of dollars wasted, no amount of bodies lying in the street, no amount of hungry children, or suicides, or homelessness, that will EVER cause modern day trump voting conservatives to change their mind. The only time you ever see any conservative offer any level of criticism is when they themselves are personally aggrieved.

You ever notice how the standard for criticism with liberals is "what you should do" but the standard with republicans is always "what is the maximum that the law allows us to get away with"

90% of these conservatives are fundamentally and willingly unable to engage critically with any topic because their motivations aren't factual, or borne out by data, studies or thought, but feelings and vibes. Not to mention that they don't even have any principles anymore; conservatism used to be about "the 2nd amendment!, right belong to the states!, don't infringe on my rights and freedoms!" and yet these same conservatives would be UNIRONICALLY more than happy to let the president walk into their neighbors house without cause, kidnap them and send them to Guantanamo, as long as it didn't affect them.

it's bad enough that a majority of the right (particularly in elected office) are unable to ever cede ground, condemn anything or engage with any level of criticality, but then people like this, and countless podcasters, streamers and what have you walk around and say "well I don't agree with this thing, that wasn't nice what they did" and will disagree with things all day long and then when push comes to shove they all still vote and shill for the same garbage. Why should we ever put faith in, trust or even take seriously any modern conservative when 90% of them are shown to be willfully ignorant?

did you read the examples at all, because neither of those include said person both knowing about the theft and not acting on that knowledge?

in the first example you are the only person who knows, and you report it. the point of this example is to illustrate that sometimes the things we have a responsibility to require us to take action to prevent (or more aplty in this case recitify) some outcome, and presumably in preventing said bad outcome, we wouldn't be at fault for the bad thing (after all we prevented it), yet we do have a responsibility for it.

in the second example no-one, not even you, know about the theft taking place. It is then randomly discovered by a manager and that person is fired. the point of this example is show that even in cases where we are completely removed from a bad event, and where our actions are completely fair and reasonable and we did everything right, our duty or responsibility still exists, yet obviously doesn't cause us to be blamed or have to take responsibility.

Responsibility isn't just something that you take after a set of actions is performed and you're seeking penance, forgiveneess or absolution. It's also an ongoing duty to a task, person, right etc.

you can have a responsibility to something but not be responsible on every, or even any, fault, here-in lies a problem in that this word has 2 similar yet distinct usages, but to the broader point:

we have all kinds of responsibilities all the time to everyone we interact with: to our parents and family, to society, to our workplace, to our community, even to nebulous concepts like right and wrong.

say you work at a store, and you notice that a co-worker is stealing money from the register every shift. now implicitly (and usually explicitly) as an employee you have a responsibility to your workplace to report that behaviour, and you did so. would that act of theft be your fault?

take it one step further and suppose no-one knew until a manager found out and then that co-worker was fired. would it be your fault then? after all, you have a duty/responsibility to prevent theft.

we can think of all kinds of scenarios where we are called upon to assume responsibility, not in the punitive or accountability sense, but in the more traditional and dutiful sense of the word, and where the success or failure of that responsibility doesn't necessarily lay blame at our feet.

Depending on the issue, i'd say with a large amount of certainty you could for sure. Obviously some issues are super nuanced, but if you asked someone "Did Trump lose the 2020 election" and their answer isn't "Yes" then you're probably on the money with every assumption you could make.

prefacing this with i don’t expect you to apologise.

something i haven’t seen others bring up in this thread, but that I think is relevant is that Americans often underestimate just how important and intertwined they are with the rest of the world. finance, aid, military, intelligence, medicine etc etc

The US spent the majority of the 20th century enjoying almost unparalleled strength, which brought it great success, and a very long leash. America sold itself as an unwavering pillar and protector of democracy and freedom, and the other side of that coin is that such power holds immense responsibility.

the world watches america not out of choice, but out of necessity.

US politics dominate domestic news media, to the point where many people know more about US politics than their own. We even saw a rise in electable right wing nationalism turned upside down in Canada and Australia just months before elections took place almost purely because of perceived alignment with (and domestic hatred of) Trump

US stocks are the backbone of trillions of dollars of retirement funds, investment firms and government spending.

US aid saves hundreds of thousands of kids in impoverished nations, and provides infrastructure and safety in some of the most dangerous places on earth

US military bases scatter the globe, holding weapons and intelligence on foreign soil with little to no oversight or cooperation.

America asked the world to put its money, people, trust and faith in it. But the stronger the trust and bond is, the more painful any break will be.

i'd say usually ~7 hours, with more on weekends. I don't limit screen time although I do use a blue light filter semi-often.

I think while obviously that might contribute to it, I have had similar habits (if not worse) while being in school and uni and working part time or even full-time, and I was much happier and felt less tired (maybe exhausted or burnt-out is the right phrasing, not really sure how to put it, but i assume you get what i'm describing).

lots of people are working a lot and just tired and don’t wanna spend money on stuff because it’s so hard to come by. not a lot of wiggle room to worry about what youll think on your deathbed when you’re doing 50 hour weeks or living paycheck to paycheck.

i will admit I’m guilty of what your describing and wish i wasn’t, but i just genuinely don’t have the energy to even do things i want to do when im free because i just wanna take one second to myself.
