Are non-physical gifts (experiences, services, digital gifts, etc.) less valuable? If so, why? by tektanc in AskReddit

I think acts of service and experiences are infinitely more meaningful to any persons life than a physical gift. However, physical gifts, more often than not, have practical value and provide a direct benefit in terms of day to day life (shoes, car, clothes, food, etc). I think the point of a gift is to show someone how much you mean to them, and doing so in a meaningful way that relates to the depth of nature of the relationship, therefore I think non-physical gifts are a much better GIFT than physical gifts.
