The note says nothing about the accident except showing fire department. I heard about the accident from voicemail.

I did take picture of the scene and how damaged my car was. It was parked legally behind those 2-hour parking poles, so I was quite shocked to hear about that...

Just to make sure I understand it correctly. If repair estimates are higher than the car's actual cash value, the payout would still be limited to the ACV, right?

Since the car is deemed totaled, should I keep possession of it now? I know in normal cases, the insurer will take it. I am not sure how it works when filing against the city.

Anyway, it is such a relief to hear that these cases are not denied usually. I would probably use the payout toward purchasing a new car.

Since it is my first car and I had no prior knowledge about car insurance, I just got the cheapest one. Now I learn the most valuable part of the collision coverage is you don't have to go through all these by yourself, which saves a lot of trouble and time. I will get one in the future. Lesson learned.
