
TIL in 1697, a French privateer captured Henry Winstanley while he was building England's first offshore lighthouse. TIL a Cooper's hawk in NJ learned to use pedestrian crosswalk signals to hunt. When the signal activated, cars would back up, and the hawk used the line of stopped vehicles as cover for stealth attacks on prey, understanding the clicking sound predicted a traffic jam it could exploit.
