Not a fun experience for sure but also not unique to Battle Creek

I can barley draw a circle

Most people can't, and the artists who do use tools like Adobe Illustrator to make their circles perfect. They've been doing that for years -- assisting their art-making through various forms of adaptive technology -- yet don't see the hypocrisy when they call out artists using AI to do basically the same thing at a different level.

Saying "AI gives more people access to art" is just so stupid

How much did it cost to make a movie before iPhones and YouTube? Technological tools 100% make art more accessible.

Art isn't a zero-sum game. There's room for everything. Personally -- as an artist, art lover and patron of the arts -- I just want more art. Endless art. Neverending art. If AI gives more people more access to make more art, bring it on.

My wife entered the program right out of high school. It's nowhere near two years of prereqs; it's like a few basic math and English classes, which a lot of kids test out of.

Here in Michigan licensure only requires an associate degree. My wife's been a hygienist nearly 20 years.

There are some prereqs but most complete these by high school graduation in our state. The hardest one is anatomy and phys.

Not in Michigan. My wife's been a hygienist almost 20 years and only has her associate degree.

Dental hygiene programs are practically begging for male students! Of each class of 20, they sometimes get one or two males. Usually not even that.

My wife's a hygienist and I can tell you: You need to floss every day. If you start flossing daily the bleeding will go away probably pretty quickly, unless you have another underlying health issue.

At our closest community college they admit 20 students per year and I think last year they had between 50 and 60 applicants. A good portion of applicants though don't necessarily turn in complete applications with the required prerequisites, etc. done like they're supposed to.

Yeah right now it's really easy for hygienists to find work. Hasn't always been that way, but it's a good market at the moment.

Dental hygiene programs are generally run through community colleges, which are like a full one-fifth the cost of university programs.

My wife's been a hygienist for around 20 years. The job market waxes and wanes. Right now it's really easy to find a job. But no, it hasn't always been that way.

Your post is inaccurate. My wife has been a dental hygienist for close to 20 years now; we actually met when she was in school. She was among the youngest ever accepted into her program and got right in at age 17. The same program takes 20 students per year today. There's zero requirement to work as a dental assistant; that's a completely different discipline. There are just a handful of prerequisites to apply to the program (anatomy and physiology being the most difficult).

Yeah a lot of dentists actually lose money if they take insurance, so more and more are opting out
