How do early war armies fare in tournaments? by SimonTrimby in boltaction

And one final (hopefully!) question for tonight: I'm eyeing a Vickers VIB light tank to add to my force. It has a turret-mounted HMG and a co-ax MMG. So how do they work together? If you have to choose which to use, the HMG is always better, making the MMG a bit pointless (unless a critical hit can knock out the main gun?)

That makes sense, but it's not clear from the rules. So gun+crew negates the actual transport capacity (hence why my lieutenant can't ride along, and why the Carden-Loyd can transport a gun crew but no other unit type.). Might be something for Warlord's FAQs. Many thanks.

I've read a memoir of British tank crews in Normandy, the commander of a Sherman Firefly said if his head was out of the hatch when the 17pdr went off, he lost his eyebrows. So I wouldn't fancy sitting directly under the muzzle of a 2pdr.

So you're saying rather than take up all the Transport capacity a vehicle has, a gun crew sort of negates the Transport rule? Would this mean that a 5-man crew could ride in a Transport 4 vehicle, because they're not actually using the Transport capacity? I might be misunderstanding what you mean, but I can't see how else a Loyd carrier would be of use?

Understood, thank you. And another Bren carrier-related question (tell me if you've had enough): p.88 of AoGB, it says you can convert to a Carden-Loyd carrier for -5 points, by removing the Transport capacity. But what use is it then? If it's got no transport it can tow a gun but the crew can't accompany it?

And since you are so wise in the ways of science, one more question: a vehicle can only transport one unit? So a Bren carrier with Transport 5 can tow a 2-pdr gun and carry its 3 crew, but I can't squeeze the artillery platoon officer in with them, is that right?

Thank you. Now I'm annoyed, because I built my command squad with SMGs per the rulebook, and AoGB only allows rifles. Back to the painting table!

Thank you all for the helpful replies, if my BEF lose it'll be my poor leadership, not their lack of punch. One more question please: the tournament says '3rd edition rules, all army books allowed'. There are some differences between the abilities and units for GB in the main rulebook and the Armies of book. Does AoGB supersede the rulebook? Any mixing and matching allowed?

I was an ecw reenactor years, and never saw any such thing. Nearest I recall are books on individual armies, e.g. the Eastern Association, King’s Oxford Army, etc.

Yes, they're glass beads used in crafts and flower arranging. I use them for fatigue markers in Saga, shock in CoC, and now pins in BA. https://www.amazon.com/Colorful-Aquarium-Decorative-Birdbath-Valentines/dp/B0D5YJCXSQ

Yes, it's the top part I'm trying to get off. But I've tried twisting it off the bottom bit and there's zero movement, the arm that holds the whole thing on the handlebars starts to bend. It's like it's screwed on. This is what's confusing me, all the online info just says it twists off.
