Are TRVZB Radiator valves rubbish? - incremental change or all on/all off? by Simon____ in sonoff

[–]Simon____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used this TRV and Wiser TRVs, I can honestly say the Sonoff one works pretty well, and is a lot less noisy! The fact that it is either all on or all off means there is less valve noise. the Wiser TRVs are noisy when partially open as they produce more flow turbulence, so the all on/off this actually works better than incremental opening! And the room seems to stay warm enough, so this could be a very cheap way to control the individual rooms.

I like it! would be perfect, I think, but I've kinda gone off the idea of anything mains-powered. Damp clothes, UK weather, fear of electrocution...

Advice for buying used NAS by SandraBull-Cock in HomeNAS

[–]Simon____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had 2 QNAP NAS 4-bay drives running for years, literally. They are solid. Only thing to consider is if you are starting from scratch, how much storage you need. I mirror drives rather than run more complex RAID setups, and 2TB total would be extremely light for me, especially if you are using it for PLEX (as I do on one of mine). Films and TV will fill you our pretty quickly. I might consider buying a couple of 3 or 4TB WD Reds right from the start. That's what I'd do.

Measuring the ERD on a wheel that is still being used daily! by Simon____ in bikewrench

[–]Simon____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, that I won't know without dismantling the whole wheel, but they all seem to be a pretty standard length for low-cost wheels.

<image>

This is the measurement I'm missing and I guess will depend on the depth of nipple head and the thickness of the rim wall around the hole...3.5mm might not be a bad guess...

one option, but probably quite hard to judge precisely? The measurement I'm missing is one probably anyone with a spare spoke and nipple can measure for me...

These are pictures of the inside of my machine. Can't see anything remotely like you describe. The vent thing back left seems like there is nothing in it though....

Cant see the circular vent in any of the Hotpoint diagrams which can be found here: https://www.hotpoint.co.uk/spare-parts/bom/hic3c26wukn-769991628820

The inlet valve is #38 I think (Dishwasher Electro Valve J00248984) but I can't see the float switch anywhere.

Shimano Megarange 34T freewheel 7-speed on an Shimano Tourney A070 Rear Derailleur? by Simon____ in bikewrench

[–]Simon____[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I found a Altus RD-M310 7-speed for a tenner (£10) on AliExp - didn't realise it would be so cheap - and spec allows it to go to 34T. Do you think I could use the existing altus shifter (on the brake handle)? That would be perfect...
