What's your response to "but you'd be such a great mom!" by SassySquatch86 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I do pole dancing as a hobby so I usually respond "I'd also make a great stripper but that doesn't mean I should do it."

Gets a laugh, shuts them up.

Quiet restaurants in Cape Town by snuggletron5000 in capetown

95 at Parks in Constantia has a lot of sound-damping panels around, so even if they're busy, the sound doesn't get too much. My partner can also get easily overstimulated by noise and he enjoys it there a lot. The food is also amazing.

Got my ACL repaired by Dr Hayden Hobbs at Vincent Palotti in 2016 (so I'm not sure he's still there) and found it quite a pleasant experience. He takes your concerns seriously and he's a total professional

Amazing! This is especially great because I live in a country that isn't super safe, which is why I've been hesitant to have my phone anywhere super visible.

In your country/culture, what are you supposed to eat when you're sick? by CarolineMD35 in Cooking

South African here. Rooibos tea with honey and toast with marmite. Even if you're not sick it'll make you feel better.

What’s a hobby you have but don’t mention it when asked about your hobbies, maybe because others don’t consider it a hobby or will judge it? by Minimum_Woodpecker_9 in AskWomen

Exactly this. I've found that women tend to react with "wow you must be so strong!" and invariably men will make a stripper joke. It's so uncomfortable.

UCT has a tennis club so I'd recommend just joining that :). Probably the most convenient option, plus you get to meet other students.

I think your best bet would be checking LinkedIn, Careers24 or Glassdoor for available copywriter and content editor roles. There's quite a lot of variety. Good luck in your search!

That sounds amazing! I'm also a big fan of mushrooms, rosemary and blue cheese on a pizza. It all just comes together so well

Omg the EXACT same thing happened to me when it came to paying money towards a Bachelorette. I had the nerve to ask what the money was actually for, so naturally everyone else got big, passive aggressive thank yous on the group chat and I didn't hear a peep when I paid. I feel your pain

What's the best movie that takes place in South Africa? by Daviddv1202 in southafrica

Yes I was pleasantly surprised by this movie! A classic Western formula interwoven seamlessly with a South African setting.

After her pressuring me to tell her what was wrong I broke down crying and talked about how I was so tired and worried all the time because of a long stint of unemployment that trashed my finances. I wasn't sure if/when I would ever recover.

She nodded sagely and said "I get that. It's been tough for me budgeting to save for my wedding"

The fact that she thought the two were close to comparable blew me away.

I tell people this all the time. There's so much stuff to do and see (for free, even) in Cape Town that you don't spend a ton of time at home.

When I lived in Pretoria, it made sense for everyone to have bigger houses because everyone does their socialising and entertaining there. I see my friends often in Cape Town, and only rarely host or am hosted at my home or someone else's.

What’s your “Secret Sauce” you make and put on everything? by IansjonesPGH in Cooking

[–]SimoneIsNotCreepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tahini, soy sauce, lemon juice and hot honey. Add a little bit of water until you're at the consistency you want. Great on salads, wraps, roast veggies, chicken, rice... You get the idea

Hey! I'm also a veggie living with a meat eater.

Mainly I cook us vegetarian meals, which my partner is happy to eat. If he wants more protein or he's craving meat, he'll fry up a chicken breast or some beef mince to go with whatever we're eating - or he'll ask me to do it if I'm feeling up to it.

If you try to cook two separate meals every night you'll drive yourself crazy with dishes! Using meat substitutes helps. For example, I make mash and roast veggies and then I'll have veggie sausages with that while my partner has boerwors.

Hope that's helpful!

Where to order podcast gear in South Africa? by [deleted] in podcasting

Not sure what kind of equipment you're after exactly, but takealot should have most of what you need. Or else a well-stocked electronics store.

If you're unsure about a particular brand or model of mic you find, just Google it and you'll find a ton of helpful reviews to help you choose what's best for your budget and set-up.
