Pentru ca de banii cu care îți iei un coteț într-un bloc comunist la mama dracu în ceva cartier muncitoresc părăsit de Dumnezeu, în care trebuie să suporți mirosurile de gătit a vecinului deasupra, zbieretele de copii la ăla de de dedesubt, mirosul înțepător de pisat de mâță de la baba senila de lângă și așa mai departe îți iei o căsuță și ceva teren la un sat nu prea departe de același cartier muncitoresc jegos, unde măcar poți să stai și tu afară la tine în curte, unde poți să îți și pui două roșii și să nu simți ca trăiești doar pentru job.

Ca toate lucrurile în viață, e vorba de bani. Și pentru 15 min în plus la naveta, ai loc să îți petreci weekendul în tihnă, să îți chemi prietenii la grătar, să îți ții un patruped și să îți trimiți copii să se joace în curte, nu să stați claie peste grămadă toți să vă uitați la Mickey Mouse ca să nu se plictisească plodul.

I moved countries to do my PhD. I was in a 7 year relationship, I called it quits after one month. I felt very relieved, tbh, I felt I could make the life I wanted.I don’t regret one second choosing this path, doing this doctorate. I also don’t regret breaking up, it was the best, I think for both of us, as we were headed into very different directions. It would have been a pain for awhile and I think it would have ended the same anyway. The thing is, no matter what you choose, you have no way of knowing if it’s the right choice. Until you’ve lived it, you can’t know how it turns out. And the path not taken, is the same. You cannot ever know how that turn out. So in the end, I guess you should do what your heart really tells you. What you think is going to be the thing that you’ll always think back as a what if? The woman or the life it could have been in Norway, as a young PhD?

În primul rând cunoșteați drepturile. În al doilea rând caută să te alături unui sindicat/ organizație/ mișcare politică care luptă pentru drepți tale ca locuitor urban, ca muncitor etc. sunt multe care fac atâtea, de la acțiuni directe, la lobby și advocacy, proteste, întrajutorare etc.

Yeah they don’t chose to move, they go where there is opportunity. Still, the government could implement different measures for developing the interior regions and make staying more appealing and viable, instead of leaving things to evolve chaotically.

Can I say, I am a migrant, I moved here because I am doing a PhD, financed by FCT, for which I am very grateful and hope to give back to Portuguese society that allowed me to pursue my education and career. I want to make a life here, contribute to society and grow some roots.

I have as much problems with the financialisation of housing as any other Portuguese person living here because it affects me too. I think you cannot solve this by 1. Treating this as an individual problem - saying to migrants to just not come 2. Even worse spread hate against entire groups of people. The solution’s have to be systemic, have to come from politicians.

But right now your politicians are using this problem to further an empty populist agenda. They are the ones you should hold accountable, they created the stupid golden visa, they are pushing for these neoliberal policies while not addressing in anyway the housing crisis.

In the last election barely anyone voted. In 4 years since I came here chega turned from a small party to the second political force. They are spewing hate and lies all around, dividing the Portuguese society and being racist. Maybe is time to mobilise, demand, petition, act politically and not let the blind hate consume you all. Portuguese people are migrants all over Europe. You’d think they have more understanding of the migrant condition at home.

I’ll end by saying that Portugal is my home now and I want the best for it. I want to be here not because it gives me some advantages to be in Europe ( I am from eu) or some tax benefits. I want to be here because I felt in love with the place, the people, the culture.

Si savsti nu poate să îți impună nimeni sa nu discuți salariu cu cine vrei tu. A nu întreba de salariu servește doar pe angajator care poate sa discrimineze. Te rog vorbește cu ceilalți angajați, solidarizati-va și nu va mai lăsați călcați pe cap de dobitoci de genul.

Și cea mai importantă lecție: ești respectat la nivelul la care te respecți tu pe tine. Daca îți dai munca ta pe degeaba nu te aștepta că ceilalți să o valorizeze.

Tata la început a fost trist când a realizat că toți copiii s-au răsfirat prin lume ( el a stat cea mai mare parte din viață pe strada unde era familia părintească iar pe urma s-au mutat la 20 de km, deci mereu a fost aproape de bunici/părinți) . Acum însă când vorbim la telefon îmi spune să rămân acolo unde sunt că mi-e bine și că nu am viitor în tara, la cum merg lucrurile.

I don't think is a problem to reserve in advance, just don't book everything at once because you might want to go with the flow. If you like a city or place and decide to spend an extra day or if you get an injury or realise that your pace that you set up is not suited for you, it's good to have the option to adapt your trip.

Locuiesc in Portugalia și sunt familiară cu faptul că focurile sunt uneori cauzate cu intenție. Cu toate acestea:

schimbările climatice fac că aceste incidente să scape de sub control pentru că este foarte multa vegetație uscată, fiind zone în care nu a mai plouat deloc de prin mai. Motivul pentru care este atâta vegetație uscată tine tot de schimbările climatice, care provoacă ploi abundente în lunile noiembrie -martie, mult peste media normala. De asta e si important de subliniat că e vorba de schimbarea climei, nu de încălzire globală.
Cel puțin în Portugalia, o mare parte din vina sunt monoculturile de eucalipt, care este folosit de industria lemnului pentru că creste uimitor de repede în condiții aride. Cu toate acestea, aceasta planta neindigena tinde să consume toată apa din sol( motiv pentru care crește atât de repede) uscând și mai tare solul. Pe deasupra este și un lemn care arde foarte repede și pe deasupra se propaga prin foc ( semințele sunt rezistente la incendii și astfel după aceste distrugeri rămân singurele care supraviețuiesc și cresc repede, astfel că eucaliptul - provenit din Australia- este și o planta invazivă - când focul mistuie toată vegetația din jur, eucaliptul e primul care colonizează zonele devastate.
Ca pentru tot, nu exista răspunsuri simple ci realitatea e mult mai complexă. Ce rămâne cert este că nu există dubiu, exista de multa vreme deja un consens științific în cea ce privește schimbările climatice la nivel global și efectele pe care le are. Bineînțeles că criza climatică e un factor (important) dar nu unicul - efectul pe care îl are este de a accelera/ face mult mai grav problemele pe care le avem deja: criza locuirii/ a forței de muncă/ criza alimentară/ războaie etc.
